The "Unknown" Controversy

In addition, the final boss of TTT is an "Unknown", a spooky Asian-looking woman with glowing yellow eyes and purple slime coating her otherwise naked body. Behind her, some sort of wolf-like spirit acts out every move she performs, giving the impression that it is controlling her actions. Unknown has the ability to copy all of the other characters' abilities and the player can switch these abilities on the fly simply by pressing down on the Right analog stick. What's interesting to note, however, is that Unknown starts with the fighting style of Jun Kazama at the onset of every battle. This, in addition to their similar features, have led many to believe that Unknown is a possessed Jun Kazama. However, as Namco has not commented, nor featured Unknown in any subsequent Tekken games, this remains a heated controversy amongst fans. When it writes a name in Japanese, it is 風間 準(Kazama Jun) or かざま じゅん(Kazama Jun)

Parallelism to Asuka Kazama

Another interesting fact is that Jun seems to be completely replaced by a recent addition to the series named Asuka Kazama (cousin of Jin Kazama), both in terms of gameplay (they pretty much share the exact same moves) and in spiritual power. Asuka first appeared in Tekken 5. In previous Tekken games, Jun Kazama possessed strange angelic powers that allowed her to temporarily quell evil entities (such as the Devils which possess Jin Kazama and, possibly, Kazuya Mishima). Similarly, in her ending within Tekken 5, Asuka manages to reverse Jin Kazama's Devil transformation simply by touching him. She did not seem to be aware of this power, however, nor did she seem to notice Jin's transformed state at all. At the end of their encounter, Jin accidentally fell face-first onto Asuka's breasts and, after a momentary look of embarassment, Asuka retaliated by punching him into a wall of rock and stomping away angrily, never finding out about their relation.

What's interesting is that, if Asuka does not know about her power (or her relation to Jin), then it's possible that not everyone with Kazama blood has this ability. Jun seemed to able to sense the Devil within Kazuya Mishima (Jin's father), but Asuka apparently has no such extraordinary sense, despite there being three individuals within the King Of Iron Fist Tournament 5 who possessed a Devil Gene (Jinpachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama in total).

This may be attributed to several factors:

  • Asuka's age, as she is several years younger than Jun was when she appeared in Tekken 2.
  • Jun's title of "Chosen One" (which made her special even amongst other Kazamas, as stated in her Tekken 2 profile).
  • Asuka's "less-than-pure" behavior. While Jun was peace-loving and mostly pacifistic, Asuka is eager to get into a fight.

Story

Tekken 5

In the optional "Devil Within" minigame, Jin Kazama finds clues that lead him to believe that Jun is alive. However, it just turns out to be Ogre.

Tekken 4

In Jin's Tekken 4 ending, he sees a vision of Jun right before he is about to kill Heihachi Mishima. It is not known if this was his mother's spirit or merely a hallucination.

Jun Kazama also appeared in Tekken Tag Tournament as a playable character, but that title has no bearing on the official story. This is Jun Kazama's last appearance as a playable character in a Tekken game.

Tekken 3

During the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Jun Kazama wound up impregnated by Kazuya Mishima. At the conclusion of the KoIFT2, Devil left Kazuya and attempted to possess Jun's unborn child. But Jun defeated Devil. After raising Jin for 15 years, Jun sensed that approaching of Ogre and warned Jin to seek out his grandfather Heihachi should anything happen to her. One night, Ogre did indeed attack, and Jun went missing.

Jun is an officer of the WWWC, a wildlife protection organization. She is called "The Chosen One" by her Kazama relatives. She is highly psychic and can sense a mysterious power surrounding Kazuya Mishima. At the behest of her father's ghost, she sets out to free Kazuya, who smuggles environmentally-protected animals, and also wants to free him of his evil power during the tournament.

When the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2 was coming to an end, Jun Kazama comes to the stunning realization that Kazuya's supernatural strength stems from Devil. But she cannot help being drawn to him, propelled by a mystic force beyond her control.
