Tekken Advance was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002. It features ten characters and head to head fights using the link cable. Namco got permission from Sony to release this, however did not release any subsequent games due to the exclusive deal with Sony. It is licensed by Nintendo.
The gameplay in Tekken Advance is similar to other games in the series, but because it is on portable machine, the programmers made the inputs simplified or removed altogether. It utilizes a single-input system, with kick mapped to the A button, punch to the B button, and the left and right triggers used for tagging and throws, respectively. The game also included a side-step feature that made the game have a 3D feel like Mortal Kombat 5: Deadly Alliance also did later the same year.
Despite the simplification, Tekken Advance introduces new mechanics by implementing a wide range of "stun" variations such as "pop stuns", "crumple stuns" and right/left stuns.

- Heihachi Mishima is the only unlockable character.
- While all the Tekken games had character endings after completing the game with a character, none of the characters have endings after clearing this game.
- This is the only game in the Tekken series to feature a Tag mode with 3 character tag teams.
- Being present only characters from Tekken 3, and being the official storyline of the game the same as Tekken 3, this is considered a port of Tekken 3, but it features renders from Tekken Tag Tournament.
- Instead of having four buttons for limbs, the game has only two buttons for limbs, due to Gameboy Advance's restricted buttons. A button is for kicks, B button is for punches, L button is for tag switch and the R button is for throws.
- All characters have only one throw in the game.
- There are no replays in this game.
- There are three colors customs.
