In the Tekkenpedia each new release of a Tekken game is defined as an installment. The criteria for defining an installment is somewhat hazy. Generally if an update is adding new characters to the game along with extensive costume and move updates then it is defined as an installment. For example, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 are installments. Tekken 5 and the two patches that were released to help balance the characters are not defined as an installment however Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection are defined as an installments (likewise Tekken 6 and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion) as they introduce new characters to the storyline.
