[edit] Introduction

The granddaughter of Eddy Gordo's master (see Ho Chi Myong) and Eddy's suggested romantic interest. She has replaced Eddy as the prominently-featured capoeira fighter in the Tekken series. In Tekken 4, she entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to search for Eddy, and in Tekken 5, she entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 because she wished to use the Mishima Zaibatsu's cutting-edge technology to save her grandfather. As of Tekken 6, Christie enters the 6th Tournament to find Eddy and her grandfather, who have mysteriously gone missing.

Christie has quite a substantial fanbase. Some fans consider her to be an excellent addition to the cast, adding sex appeal to the series, as well as light-heartedness to largely-somber cast. However, this is also a major criticism of the character. Christie's scarce clothing and flirtatious mannerisms give many the impression that Christie was added merely as fan service to the cast. At the same time, Christie's minimal part in the story (which, to date, has only consisted of searching for Eddy and trying to save her grandfather) does not interest many fans, especially when it's considered that Eddy's story of revenge against Kazuya Mishima was interrupted by Christie's introduction.

A further criticism is inherited from Eddy directly--many fans despise Tekken's interpretation of capoeira, as used by both Eddy and Christie. A common criticism is that it rewards button mashing players too richly. Regardless, most expert-level players do not regard the characters as cheap.

[edit] Trivia

  • Christie's sub-bosses are Bruce Irvin and Eddy Gordo.
  • In Tekken 4, Christie Monterio's voice actress is Xanthe Smith.
  • In Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Christie Monteiro's voice actress is Lisle Wilkerson.
  • A Maxim model named Hannah starred as Christie Monteiro in the Tekken Maxim Photoshoot for the Maxim magazine.
  • In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Christie (and soon Zafina in Tekken 6) can be customized to look like Princess Jasmine from Disney's Aladdin.
  • Christie's Tekken 4 2nd player outfit and her Tekken 5/Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection 1st player outfits seem to be designed after the pants used in Capoeira. Regular Capoeira pants are white and have some sort of stripped rope indicating one's level; however, Christie's outfits seem to be a more glamorous version of these pants.
  • The guy who said Marshall Law's cooking sucked (in Law's Tekken 4 ending) and one of the female restaurant patrons (the girl in the black sweater outfit) can be seen in Christie's Tekken 4 ending as she runs up to Eddy. The former is cheering on Christie's victory while the latter seemingly looks back at Eddy.
  • A common theme for Christie's Capoeira style outfits is that of a butterfly. In Tekken 4, it can be seen hanging on the front of her pants, while in Tekken 5/Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and Tekken 6, her pants are decorated with a single butterfly on each thigh and a butterfly pin holds the straps of her top together.

Christie is the granddaughter of the Capoeira master who taught Eddy Gordo the art of Capoeira during his incarceration in prison. While in prison, Eddy swore an oath to the master to pass on the art of Capoeira to his granddaughter.

Eddy sought out Christie shortly after his return from The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 and taught her the art of Capoeira, just as he promised his master. After only two years of tutelage, Eddy turned Christie into an impressive fighter.

But soon thereafter, Eddy abruptly disappeared, leaving Christie only with the words, "I must seek vengeance against the enemy responsible for the death of my father."

Troubled by his sudden and mysterious disappearance, Christie chases after Eddy with her only lead — The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4.

[edit] Ending Animation "Christie Fin"

Christie Monteiro has defeated Heihachi Mishima and won the tournament. The audience is cheering for her. People are walking up to her, taking photos of her and complimenting her about her victory. One man starts to interview her about her victory. Christie is very nonchalant throughout this. A man in a suit walks up to her, holding a golden trophy that is shaped like Heihachi's head. Two women are behind this man. Christie looks through the crowd and sees Eddy, who has a sling on one of his arms. Christie starts to run up to him while yelling, "Eddy!", twice. An echo of her saying this is heard after the second time she says it. Christie runs up to him and hugs him. Eddy hugs her with his other arm (the arm that doesn't have a sling around it). Christie says, "Eddy...", and then she closes her eyes and smiles.

[edit] Tekken 5 Manual Version

Christie's grandfather was diagnosed with an incurable illness. Without treatment, the doctors gave him only six months to live. Christie hoped a cure was possible using the advanced technology of the Mishima Zaibatsu. She decided to enter the tournament, seeing it as a chance to save her grandfather.

[edit] Official Version

Christie Monteiro, the granddaughter of a Capoeira master.

Christie went to the prison where her grandfather was being held, as he was to be released after a long incarceration. Prison life had been hard on her grandfather. He had become emaciated to the point where he was barely recognizable.

Christie immediately took her grandfather to a hospital, where she was told that her grandfather had been diagnosed with an incurable illness. Without treatment, he only has about six months left. If only she possessed the advanced technology of the Mishima Zaibatsu, she might be able to save her grandfather...

Several days later, Christie finds out that The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 is scheduled to be held. She decides to enter the tournament, seeing it as a chance to save her grandfather.

[edit] Interludes

Stage 4: Bruce Irvin

Bruce looks at Christie and says, "Well! The competition certainly has gotten easier on the eyes." Christie replies, "I doubt you'll think of me that way after I'm through with you." Bruce says, "You wanna see how long your Capoeira stands up to my kicks?" Bruce slaps one of his knees with one of his hands. Christie answers, "Absolutely." After Christie wins, Bruce is knocked to the ground. Bruce says, "Pretty tough!" Christie holds up one of her index fingers and shakes her hand while going, "Tsk, tsk, tsk." Then, she says, "You have no rhythm. You'll never be able to beat me." Christie smiles, turns around, and walks away.

Stage 7: Eddy Gordo

Eddy says, "Christie, it's too dangerous. I want you to go home!" Christie replies, "No! How do you expect me not to do anything after I've seen what happened to my grandpa!" Eddy says, "Then I don't have a choice.", and then he prepares to fight Christie. After Christie wins, Eddy is shown laying on the ground. Christie looks down at him and says, "Wait for me Eddy. I promise I'll come back." Then, Christie turns around and walks away.

Final Stage: Jinpachi Mishima

Christie walks through Final Stage 2. Jinpachi (in human form) walks up behind her and says, "I'm impressed that you've made it this far. I am Jinpachi Mishima. My goal... My goal is to destroy all existence!" Shortly after Jinpachi starts to speak, Christie turns around and notices him. After he finishes speaking, Jinpachi transforms into his "Devil" form.

[edit] Ending Animation

Christie and Eddy are sitting outside of the operation room. The light on top of the door (which says 'Operating') goes off. The scene changes. Eddy and Christie are outside training. Ho Chi Myong then comes an interrupts the session. Eddy sits out and watches Christie and Ho Chi Myong as they practice.
