[edit] Introduction

Devil is a character in the Tekken series. He has served as the final boss in Tekken 2.

Devil was first introduced to the Tekken series when Kazuya was thrown off a cliff by his father, Heihachi Mishima (he did so just to test his son's strength, feeling that he was "weak"). As Kazuya was dying, Devil appeared from out of nowhere and offered Kazuya the ultimate power he needed to overthrow his father, in exchange for his soul. Despite knowing this was a dangerous risk, especially when it came from a villainous source, Kazuya longed to enact revenge against his father for what he had done to him. Thus, he accepted Devil's deal, and with his life saved, Kazuya was able to plan ahead for his moment of revenge. Interestingly enough, Kazuya's soul wasn't consumed completely by Devil (which lead to an internal struggle against Angel, whom represented Kazuya's good side). The only time Devil had ever left Kazuya was when he tried to inhabit inside the womb of Jun Kazama's unborn child, Jin Kazama, but in an epic battle, Jun defeated Devil. Devil then rejoined with Kazuya on the brink of his resurrection, thus narrowly avoiding death.

It is not known whether Devil won the internal struggle against Angel, or whether Angel completely gave up trying to save Kazuya (seeing that Kazuya was driven to evil anyway; given his natural hatred for his father), but since Tekken 4, it looks like Kazuya and Devil act as one entity. However, as demonstrated in Kazuya's Tekken 4 ending, he was able to gain control over Devil, which may demonstrate that Devil could simply be Kazuya's alternative form - yet the same guy (Devil once controlled Kazuya, which was demonstrated when Kazuya's eyes were glowing red, but seeing that Kazuya could fight Devil's control and revert to his usual self, it could be factual that now Kazuya controls Devil). Of course, whether this is true or not remains to be unseen, but fans alike have theorized that Kazuya and Devil are now one entity under the control of Kazuya (in Tekken 5, Kazuya, at will, changes into his devil form to escape Hon-Maru).

To avoid confusion with Devil Jin and Jinpachi Mishima's Devil form, the devil that inhabits Kazuya is simply referred to as "Devil". No other character carrying the Devil Gene have referred themselves to simply "Devil" except Kazuya. However, Devil is referred to as Devil Kazuya in Kazuya's Tekken 5 Prologue.

[edit] Trivia

  • In Tekken Tag Tournament, if you selected both Devil and Kazuya Mishima to be your team, then pressing the tag button at any time would cause Devil to transform into Kazuya (and vice versa) instead of tagging out like every other tag team. This transformation was also accompanied with a small stun if it connected with the other player, giving you enough time to transform without suffering a counter attack.
  • In Tekken Tag Tournament, all Jack robots (Prototype Jack, Jack-2, and Gun Jack) will go haywire if Devil's or Angel's laser strikes them. They will, for a short time, lose control and run towards Devil with their arms in a windmill-striking mode, screaming their "K.O." scream. If Devil Jin hits Jack-5 with his laser in Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Jack-5 will not perform his "Windmill Punches". Instead, Jack-5 will heal himself shortly after being hit by the beam.
  • Devil makes cameo appearances in "Tekken 3's" opening sequence (he mark's Jin Kazama's arm the Devil Gene seal), Kazuya Mishima's Tekken 4 ending and Kazuya's Tekken 5 / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection prologue. This makes him the longest devil in the Tekken series. (He appear in every game excluding Tekken Advance whether as a playable character or in a cameo)
  • Devil is rumored to appear as one of the 4 bonus characters in Tekken 6.
