Devil Jin is a character in the Tekken fighting game series. Devil Jin represents Jin Kazama after the Devil Gene takes over him (Jin). Devil Jin was first featured as a playable character in Tekken 5, which was released on the PlayStation 2 console in 2005. However, Devil Jin made cameo appearances in Jin's Tekken 3 ending and Jin's Tekken 4 Epilogue. According to Devil Jin's Tekken 5 / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection prologue, Jinpachi Mishima escaping captivity when Hon-Maru fell triggered the evil that had been building up inside Jin. As Devil Jin, "Evil has utterly consumed Jin's mind." This is stated in Devil Jin's Tekken 5 / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Prologue. Devil Jin wants to absorb Jinpachi Mishima's "Devil" power, as seen during Devil Jin's Tekken 5 / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Story mode.

[edit] Behind The Evil Of Jin

Though Jin's Devil self made it's official debut in Tekken 5, he first appeared in Tekken 3. After defeating True Ogre (Ogre in his true form) in the final round of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, Jin was suddenly attacked by Heihachi's Tekken Force and was shot multiple times. Jin slowly succumbed to death, yet as he tried to call for help, his grandfather shot him in the head with his pistol, thus effectively killing Jin. However, when Heihachi turned his back and walked away, he saw the bodies of his Tekken force before him, and quickly turned around to see Jin in his Devil form. Angered by betrayal, Devil Jin grabbed Heihachi and slammed him through a stone wall and violently hurled him into the ground before flying off into the night.

It would be two years since the events of the third tournament, and Heihachi had not seen or heard from his grandson ever since. He couldn't even track him down. Jin was actually in Brisbane, Australia. Jin was living a new life there, and training under the guidance of a dojo master in the traditional art of Karate. During this time, the results of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 came in, claiming Jin as the official champion; but Jin did not wish to be identified as the champion, hence why he wore his hooded jacket. While Jin was undoing what he learned from his grandfather, he trained intensively in the art of Traditional Karate. He was able to suppress his Devil Gene also. For one, he didn't want to establish any close relationships with anyone other than the Dojo Grand master, for concern of their safety, should they figure out his dark secret, and he tried to control his anger (since the Devil Gene is usually triggered off with anger.). This wasn't an easy task, as the stinging memory of his grandfather's betrayal often enraged Jin, yet Jin worked hard at it. For two years straight, it seemed that Jin was able to compress his Devil Gene once and for all.

Or so it seemed...

After two years of silence, Jin entered The King Of Iron Fist Tournament 4 with the intention of destroying his evil bloodline by murdering his grandfather, his father (it is unknown how he knew his father was alive), and then himself. During the tournament, Jin was captured by Heihachi's Tekken Forces, and was held captive in Hon-Maru. In other events, Heihachi had defeated Kazuya in the tournament, and then lead him to Jin. When they arrive, after a brief conversation, Kazuya uses some of his supernatural power to knock Heihachi out of the room, where he watched what happened afterwards with great interest.

In Jin's dream, he was challenged by his father to "give in to the anger", in an attempt to unleash his Devil Gene (in which Kazuya wanted himself.). Jin broke free and violently attacked his father, knocking him unconscious. Heihachi then challenged Jin to a fight himself, in which Jin angrily accepted. Jin then defeated Heihachi and proceeded to kill him, which then began to unleash his Devil Gene even further. However, a vision of his mother Jun prevented Jin from killing Heihachi, as well as Kazuya. Jin flies away once more.

Moments later, Hon-Maru was under attack by Jacks, and was ultimately destroyed by an explosion, which unleashed Jinpachi Mishima; whom was in his Devil form also. This would trigger Jin's own Devil Gene and became uncontrollable, leading to the destruction of a forest. The Devil Gene was in full effect and completely took over Jin, despite trying to battle it's influence.

Two months later, evil utterly consumed Jin's mind and Devil Jin was born. He set himself an evil task: Find and kill Jinpachi and absorb his power (it hasn't been revealed if Jinpachi is in possession of the Devil Gene.).

• Devil Jin can be unlocked in two ways in the PlayStation 2 version of Tekken 5 by completing the "Devil Within" minigame, or by fighting 200 battles in any mode. However, in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Devil Jin does not have to be unlocked.
• Devil Jin is considered to be a popular character amongst fans - perhaps even better than the original Devil form of Kazuya.
• One of Devil Jin's win quotes is "Kyoufu wo oshiete yarou!" The official translation provided is "Fear the wrath of God," however, he is actually saying something more along the lines of "I will teach you the meaning of fear."
• While Jin fights using Traditional Karate, Devil Jin has retained the Advanced Mishima-Style Karate as a fighting style.
• Asuka Kazama is able to undo Jin's Devil transformation. The effect seems to depend on how close they are to each other and is most effective during actual physical contact.
• In Asuka's ending in Tekken 5, Devil Jin was wearing gloves with a pyramid pattern on it (similar to the placement of bowling pins, when viewed from above), but once he was reverted back to normal, his gauntlets changed into the spiral-patterned gloves his normal self wears in Tekken 4 and Tekken 5. Whether this indicates that Devil Jin's gloves are part of his transformation, or if it was simply a mistake by the animators is unknown.
• Devil Jin is the sub-boss for nearly every character in Tekken 5's / Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection's "Story Mode." The exceptions are himself, Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Heihachi Mishima, Asuka Kazama, Raven, Hwoarang, and Wang Jinrei.
• In Devil Jin's ending, before Devil Jin absorbs Jinpachi's power, Devil Jin is shown wearing chains (one on one of his arms and one around his waist), but as soon as he starts absorbing, the chain on his arm is gone. When Devil Jin breaks both of his gauntlets, the chains that were on his waist are also gone.
• Jin cannot control his Devil form whereas his father, Kazuya Mishima, can (at least to some degree).
• Devil Jin's sub-boss in Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is Asuka Kazama.
• Some of Devil Jin's customizable items can make him look like Devilman, from artist Go Nagani.
• Devil Jin's role in Jin's victory against Jinpachi in Tekken 5 is not yet known, however Jin's behavior in Tekken 6 (using the Mishima Zaibatsu to take over the world) suggests that he is now Devil Jin, even when not physically transformed, or under Devil Jin's control.
• In pre-rendered animated videos and CG images, Devil Jin has a chain wrapped around his waist and his left leg, but in gameplay and real-time cut scenes, these are not seen, and they are merely customization items in customization mode (only one of these can be equipped at one time). However, in Tekken 6, the chains that are wrapped around his waist and his left leg are parts of his default costumes.
• Devil Jin is the only playable character in Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection to have his own stage. In Tekken 5, his stage is the Cathedral. In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, his stage is the Winter Palace.
• The markings that appear on Devil Jin's face, chest, and back are symmetrical.
• If Devil Jin hits Jack-5 with his laser in Tekken 5 or Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Jack-5 will heal himself shortly after being hit by the beam.

With the destruction of Honmaru, Jinpachi was finally released from his long imprisonment. Seeming to coincide with this event, the Devil Gene within Jin became activated.

Two months later, Jin was completely taken over by the Devil Gene, transforming into an evil destructive life form.

Stage 8: Asuka Kazama

Devil Jin tells Jinpachi to give "it" to him. Jinpachi replies saying that Devil Jin has no manners, thus he should die. Asuka then steps in, trying to find out what's going on. At first, Devil Jin only slightly turns his head in her direction but then averts his gaze. Asuka insists on not being ignored and pleads with him to listen to her. Devil Jin laughs at her and asks if she thinks she can stop him. Asuka admits she does not know what is going on but feels Devil Jin's a bit too cocky. She makes a rude bent elbow gesture at him and says she'll put him back in his place. Devil Jin then consents to letting her go first. After defeating Asuka, Devil Jin looks down on her and says that she has no right to interfere with their plans.

Stage 9: Jinpachi Mishima

Jinpachi calls Devil Jin a fool and that he cannot defeat Jinpachi after giving in to the Devil. Devil Jin seems genuinely confused by the notion, says Jinpachi does not understand and that he has taken full control of the Devil. Jinpachi replies that he must make that power his, and the two fight.

Note: In Asuka's interlude with Jinpachi, Devil Jin was weak. He is clearly struggling and says he'll take everything, then is quickly knocked unconscious as Jinpachi bats him away.

It is not yet known if this ending is canon. Considering current events in Tekken 6, Devil Jin may have actually been the one to beat Jinpachi and have the ability to transform into Jin Kazama at will.

After having defeated Jinpachi, Devil Jin picks him up and absorbs his power, causing Devil Jin to mutate, possibly into his "complete" form. This ending is similar to Kazuya's Tekken 4 ending where Kazuya absorbs power from Jin and then transforms into Devil Kazuya.

Devil Jin also appeared in Hwoarang's ending in Tekken 5. In Hwoarang's ending, he manages to defeat Jin and is seen riding on his motorcycle on a Korean freeway. While riding, he runs into Devil Jin, who uses telekinesis to destroy his motorcycle in an explosion. Hwoarang is thrown off his bike, rolls on the ground, and then looks up to see Devil Jin. Hwoarang mutters something, stands up, prepares his stance as though to fight, and smiles. The scene then ends. This ending is not canon, however, it parallels what took place during the actual tournament: Hwoarang did defeat Jin. Jin transformed (immediately afterwards), and Devil Jin attacked Hwoarang (the damage was enough to send Hwoarang to the hospital and remain unconscious for three days).

Devil Jin is featured in the "Devil Within" side game in Tekken 5. While the player controls Jin Kazama, they are given the opportunity to change into Devil Jin by pressing the "L1" button and the "Triangle" button at the same time when the "Devil Gauge" is full while using Jin. This is also the method used to transform back into Jin Kazama, although the "Devil Gauge" does not have to be full to do this. As with the regular modes in Tekken 5, Devil Jin's moves are quite different than Jin's in Devil Within.

Devil Jin is referenced many times in the Devil Within story. In the prologue, it is stated that Jin is trying to rid himself of the Devil Gene, and, the closer he got to the certain foreign laboratory, it became harder to control the devil. Upon being ambushed by a squadron of JACKs and being defeated, Jin transformed into Devil Jin. Then, it is mentioned, "At this point, Jin hadn't realized what awoke when the devil came out." After defeating the four clones of Heihachi Mishima, created by G Corporation, Jin learns that the G Corporation scientists were after Ogre / True Ogre. Jin fought to keep the Devil Gene under control. After defeating True Ogre, it is stated that Jin realized that Ogre awakened when Jin became the devil. After defeating the ball of energy and the monsters (a seal which sealed Ogre from the world), Ogre appeared and went straight for the outside world. The devil inside Jin welled up, hungry for a fight, Then, Ogre stopped. Straining to control the devil, Jin headed off for his final battle against Ogre. After defeating Ogre and his newest form, Monstrous Ogre, Jin started to leave the ruins, but he was surrounded by hundreds of JACKs. The devil, hungry for a fight, took over Jin instantly. It is then stated that, "Mass slaughter was about to ensue...". As Jin opened his eyes, his mind was comforted by a white light, which protected him from the evil inside him, putting his mind at peace. Jin regained consciousness, and the light disappeared as he floated into the sky. After taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he stretched his black wings wide and flew into the night sky.

Devil Jin's storyline is unchanged between Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection.
