Archived Talk PagesEdit

Ok uh, I know I asked this a couple of months ago but...Edit

Is a chance I could be an admin please so I can help Tekkenpedia as much I as I can. I'm nervous for your answer, D: Please think about this. :) --Devil Beam of Death! (talk) 21:10, 31 July 2013 (CEST)

I don't really have a problem with it but what do you want to change that needs admin privileges? Samuel (talk) 00:36, 1 August 2013 (CEST)

Well first I'd like to get rid of spammers and trolls etc. I'd also like some help editing the wolf demon page. And I'd like to get some help with pictures. Plus is there like a chat thingy that users can talk in? I'd also like to be an admin so I can help other people too. :) --Devilster's words (talk) 18:58, 1 August 2013 (CEST)

Sorry I've been late replying. I've started a new job / been working on another website. I don't see too much of a problem with the spammers etc at the moment since I implemented some safe guards against it. Can you point out any cases where they've gotten through to me and I'll tighten up the security a bit more on it. Re: editing pages / images etc, being an admin won't help with editing those pages. There's no chat system.
I don't have anything against turning people into admins but I'll only do it if you have a good reason for needing the admin privileges. E.g. I granted Hamachi privileges because he's helped out on the site for a long time and needed to make changes to the front page. Samuel (talk) 23:58, 5 August 2013 (CEST)
I recall becoming an admin for providing lots of legitimate info for Tekken Tag 2 and Street Fighter x Tekken when they first came out, along with fighting lots spammers. I'm not sure what you can provide at the moment, but the spammer problem seems to have been solved with the requirement to answer before editing for minor users. Toilethead101 10:00 6 August 2013 (PHT)
Basically this. Help out around the site. One thing I've always wanted to add is videos of all the moves for each of the Tekkens. So then you could see how the moves have changed over time. If you wanted to get started on building this then that would be great! Just speccing out the templates, should each move be namespaced under it's on Tekken? Or share a common page? Adding move inputs etc. Samuel (talk) 04:45, 6 August 2013 (CEST)

World of TekkenEdit

Hi Samael. Since next year Tekken series will be 20 years, we Tekken fans have decided to do something like fan campaign to express my appreciation and thanks to the developers. We will upload fan work, translate good articles about Tekken to other language versions on Wikipedia, and more.

As a base we chose Tekkenpedia, and plan to make the campaign page here, that-be and other fans took part in the campaign. We are planning to create a campaign page, the list of participants, but Tekkenpedia have a problem with anonymous users. The fact that many participants can not join to make changes, etc.

You can remove these restrictions from one page? With the most to anonymous participants to make changes in it? Look, we all want to somehow express my gratitude to the developers of this wonderful series of games, and we need a convenient base.

Please help me with this, the developers deserve the gratitude of the fans for their 20 years of painstaking work.
Hamachi (talk) 15:40, 5 August 2013 (CEST)

I don't have a problem with this and I think I can alter the security so 1 page is unprotected. The reason the restrictions exist (e.g. you have to be logged in, pass a captcha etc) is because without them the wiki constantly gets attacked by spammers. These spammers are very sophisticated and quite destructive. So keeping that in mind, do you want to create the page and give me a link to it and I'll make the changes to the config to specifically remove the restrictions on it. Samuel (talk) 00:00, 6 August 2013 (CEST)
  • Okay, thank you very much! Here's the page.
Hamachi (talk) 04:12, 6 August 2013 (CEST)
Don't worry about the spammers, they won't get anywhere with the whole Answer before edit thing. Toilethead101 07:27 7 August 2013 (PHT)

Tekken-Tweet (@Harada_TEKKEN)Edit

Hello! Maybe can to add the tweets line in main page? (from Harada-sama twitter) Like in the official Tekken site: [1].
Hamachi (talk) 10:27, 21 September 2013 (CEST)

Like a live feed of the tweets? That's not a bad idea actually, I'll add something like this: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TwitterFeed
Samuel (talk) 12:11, 21 September 2013 (CEST)
Yes, I mean that. Okay, when you install this TwitterFeed?
Hamachi (talk) 14:19, 22 September 2013 (CEST)
Hey, I haven't forgotten about this, just trying to make some time! Samuel (talk) 11:26, 9 October 2013 (CEST)
Yes, yes I know it. I have a new idea! What do you think about creating a Twitter account for Tekkenpedia? And option for share articles in Facebook, Twitter and other social sites, like in Wikireality (Викиреальность) -> [2] (above logo of "Хаотикс").

Strange changes of Wang or TTT2 is not canon Tekken gameEdit

Hello!
The user with nickname "Wang" makes not corect changes with characters ages.
All knows, what TTT2 is not canon Tekken game, and not connected with the main plot of the series.
But Wang chages character ages, and indicates their age in TTT2. But we write only canon characters ages, only in canon Tekken games, like Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3 and other.
I told him about this, but he does not listen and change everything back.
What you think about this situation with characters ages in non-canon Tekken games?
Hamachi (talk) 07:12, 30 November 2013 (CET)

Where did you talk to him? I can't see anything on his talk page. Samuel (talk) 07:43, 30 November 2013 (CET)
  • Here, in comment for edit.
Hamachi (talk) 08:44, 30 November 2013 (CET)
We will just list all ages alongside each other. Samuel (talk) 01:52, 3 December 2013 (CET)

Hi Samuel!Edit

I wanted to apologize about the page mixup! It was an accident I didn't know how to do that. Umm, I switched everything over and I was wondering if you could go ahead and delete the AjBlast8000 page I created, but not my User one. It would really be helful...THANKS!!! And how do I upload a picture?

No worries. I'm away in New Zealand for a few days so it's hard for me to help. You can either wait until I'm back, ask one of the other mods and read the docs on uploading images. Samuel (talk) 07:31, 21 December 2013 (CET)

Russian TekkenpediaEdit

Okay, I create the account in Russian version. I think, what I can't finish all articles on time. When I finish translating the article about Tekken series, I copy all finished articles to Russian version.
Hamachi (talk) 04:48, 25 December 2013 (CET)

I would just copy what you have over and work on it there. You are more likely to attract other Russian readers. I can put a link on each page to the matching page on the Russian site, even if it does not exist, this might bring in more people that can help. Samuel (talk) 11:43, 27 December 2013 (CET)
Okay, but I need a administrator rights for protect main page. Yes, you mean interwiki?
Hamachi (talk) 03:41, 28 December 2013 (CET)
I've given you admin rights now. I see you've been making changes on it, that's good. I think the best thing to do now is copy all the pages that you've translated to the Russian Tekkenpedia and work on them there. I will see about setting up the interwiki functionality. Samuel (talk) 02:14, 29 December 2013 (CET)
Thanks! I already copy three articles, now I will copy all others and uploading images for articles.
Hamachi (talk) 06:30, 29 December 2013 (CET)

Hello Samuel. Please, can you help me? I want to make slideshow gallery in russian Tekkenpedia, like from Wikia, but I don't know how to do this. The code from wikia is not working here.
Hamachi (talk) 11:13, 16 February 2014 (CET)

It will likely need a plugin of some sort. I'll install one tonight when I get home from work and let you know. Samuel (talk) 23:30, 16 February 2014 (CET)
Sorry I haven't got to this yet! Samuel (talk) 23:55, 18 February 2014 (CET)
  • Hm, maybe this function available only on Wikia? The last request: can you see why this template not working? I copy this from Wikibooks page, but in Tekkenpedia this template not working correctly.
Hamachi (talk) 06:53, 19 February 2014 (CET)
These are plugins specific to Wikia, however I'm having a look now if I can replicate the functionality. Samuel (talk) 22:08, 19 February 2014 (CET)
Ok. I've added a slideshow plugin on both the Tekkenpedia and the Russian Tekkenpedia. You can see an example of it below. It's better then the Wikia one because you can use any content in it, not just images. I've also upgraded both versions of MediaWiki to the latest versions. I had a look around for a good rollover plugin but I couldn't find anything, if you can find one then I'm happy to add it for you. Finally, I'm also collecting analytics about the site on Google Analytics. If you want to make an account and let me know your account name, I can add you so you can see how many visitors you are getting. Samuel (talk) 01:00, 20 February 2014 (CET)
  • Wow, thank you! But... how to add switch buttons and infopanel? And I have some problems with Tekkenpedia (russian): I don't know why, but a links Портал сообщества, Текущие события and Справка (Community portal, Current events and Help) are missing. I trying to find some plugin for HoverImage template, but not find. So, I find something other plugins: TwitterFeed plugin and SmoothGallery. I don't know, but maybe TwitterFeed plugin can help display TwitterFeed, because widget can't. The SmoothGallery have slideshow functions but also have buttons for switch images without waiting and infopanel. Can you install these two plugins?
To edit the sidebar, have a look at this page: MediaWiki:Sidebar, you should have admin privileges for editing it. I'll take a look at the other plugins over the weekend and install them. Samuel (talk) 05:15, 21 February 2014 (CET)

New Wiki IdeaEdit

I've been thinking about a new wiki and wanted to get peoples feedback on the idea. It's a wiki that tracks notable people and their influences. An example would be Katsuhiro Harada, it would have a page for him then list his influences. The books, movies and other video games that inspired and influenced him. This information would be taken from interviews and news articles around the web.

Another example could be Quentin Tarantino. Here is an interview where he talks about the movies that inspired him: http://nofilmschool.com/2013/07/tarantino-on-his-influences/ so on his wiki page it would list the movies that he talks about.

I want to create this because when I sit down to watch a movie, it's hard to figure out what I want to watch. I think this would be another way of discovering them.

Hm, I think that the final product and the thing that inspired the author of the product may be very different. For example, Harada-san says (I don't remember correctly, but maybe here [3]) what Street Fighter influence on Tekken, but these two video game series is so diffrent. Or Silent Hill and Dementium: The Ward. And it will be on Wikia or MediaWiki?
Hamachi (talk) 07:27, 7 March 2014 (CET)
I think it being different is fine. I've also played all of those games (Street Fighter, Silent Hill etc) and enjoyed them. The information is already on Wikipedia (e.g. tarintino influences but not in an easily digestible format. I think I might make one or two pages and see what it's like. Samuel (talk) 07:51, 7 March 2014 (CET)
This idea actually seems like fun. I do hope that, if we do push through with this, we'll be able to clear and clarify infos like Height, VA or Weight. I really have a hard time figuring out which sources are credible or not, so the entire thing gets out of hand sometimes. Toilethead101 20:15 7 March 2014 (PHT).

TALK - 06:02, 9 March 2014 (CET)
Hmm, that is actually a pretty neat idea! After all, who doesn't wonder about the inspirations behind their favorite stories, movies, games, songs, and characters? It would be quite handy to have all that information gathered together in one place, instead of having to do separate web searches. Though I have to ask, would there be any restrictions on what people get articles on this site (in other words, do they need a certain amount of popularity)?
I think that as long as it has a cite to the interview that it came from, then it would be valid. All interviews with Tarintino would be equal regardless of who was getting the interview from him I think. You would want a certain amount of popularity for the people that were listed on the site though. Ok, cool, I might throw something together for it then. Thanks guys! Samuel (talk) 23:38, 10 March 2014 (CET)
This is sort of what I'm getting at with it: http://influpedia.co/index.php?title=Alfonso_Cuar%C3%B3n

Error in Russian TekkenpediaEdit

When I'm trying to upload an image in Russian Tekkenpedia appears error: "Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/b/be".". Please, fix it.
Hamachi (talk) 10:54, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

I moved servers and I must have broken something, will look very soon and post here when I've fixed it. Samuel (talk) 00:46, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I'll have time to look at this within the next twelve hours. Sorry it's taken so long, I'd moved house and only just got Internet enabled at my new place. Thanks for being patient :( Samuel (talk) 23:06, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Debugging this now. Samuel (talk) 06:34, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok, all done. Was affecting the Tekkenpedia as well because it's on the same server. Should be all fixed now, let me know of any problems.
Thank you, all works perfectly. About any problems: I browsing this (eng) Tekkenpedia and found that some galleries not show some images. For example, in Bryan gallery all images not shown and not works (only error messages like: "Error creating thumbnail: convert: no decode delegate for this image format `/tmp/magick-nxxQFzdp' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/544. convert: no images defined `/tmp/transform_14b84ec93950-1.jpg' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3046. Artwork. ")
I created a list of galleries with this problem:
Armor King II/Gallery
Bryan Fury/Gallery
Craig Marduk/Gallery
Forest Law/Gallery
King II/Gallery
Lei Wulong/Gallery
Leo Kliesen/Gallery
Panda/Gallery
Raven/Gallery
Tekken: The Motion Picture/Gallery
Hamachi (talk) 19:41, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! Will look into it. You might find the same problem on the Rus site as well until I fix it. Samuel (talk) 03:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

BannersEdit

Hello Samuel! So, the problem with blocked pages is end, but some pages still not opens correctly (when I'm log out of Tekkenpedia; When I'm log in, everything works normally).

I'm here because I want to add in Russian Tekkenpedia Tekken-news banners. So, it will be look like this: [4]. I'm want to make a pages in which I'll paste translated news about Tekken series. Do you know how I can make news banners like on page?
Hamachi (talk) 11:46, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

I think we will need to edit the skin to do that maybe? Have you tried editing http://rus.tekkenpedia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Sidebar? What happens if you put images in that? Samuel (talk) 23:33, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I already tried to make that, but images shows only in sidebar page, but not in sidebar: [5].
I find something about banners, I think it what we need -> [6].
Hamachi (talk) 03:25, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
This extension: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CustomNavBlocks let's you have any content you want in the sidebar. Happy if I install in about four hours? Samuel (talk) 05:00, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I've added it now, see how you go with it. Samuel (talk) 08:38, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
I guess that I irritate you now, but can you bring that extension back to russian ver? I'm just had understood how to make changes and paste navigation box back, but it seems that you delete this extension already. I'm really sorry for disturbing you, I think that I need to be modest in number of requests.
Hamachi (talk) 16:53, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
No problem, I'll do it after work. Samuel (talk) 23:14, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Done. Check how I've set it up locally if you want to see an example. Samuel (talk) 08:22, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Everything is okay, starting edit sidebar.
Hamachi (talk) 10:42, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

PokkenEdit

Just found this, not sure if we should include this. [7] - Toilethead101 26 August 21:15 (PHT)

Don't think that we should write about this. This is Pokémon series game, just made by Harada. This is like Michael Murray working on Rise of Incarnates.
Hamachi (talk) 15:26, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Agreed, I don't think it's closely related enough to Tekken. Samuel (talk) 10:30, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Maximum file sizeEdit

Hello! I know you are busy now, but I have one little request: can you up maximum file size from two to three or four MBs? I just tried to upload some images from Eng-TP to Rus-TP, but some of them has size that more than 2 MBs. For example, when I have been making article about Jinpachi and transfer it to Rus-TP, I tried to upload his CG-art from TTT2, but it has 3MB file size so I had to upload version of image with lower resolution.
Hamachi (talk) 16:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey, can you try again. I've upgraded the limit to 100m (I think). Samuel (talk) 21:53, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Checked, everything works fine! Updated image. Thank you very much!
Hamachi (talk) 05:43, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, problem againEdit

Hello. Sorry that I disturb you right now (Christmas, New Year), but I found a serious trouble with sidebar. Everything is normal with sidebar itself, trouble is with its mapping. So it's about my TekkenNews template that I made and pasted in sidebar. See what the problem is: when I in my account TekkenNews template displays as it should do, shows last edited version I mean, but when I read Tekkenpedia out of my account sidebar shows only that version of the template that was on the time of the making last edit to that page. In other words: when I added new news (21 December) to the template it didn't displays on the main page, because my last edit in the main page was at 14 December, so it displays only a old version of the template (or even don't display it, if page was edited before creation of the template. Like here). But I discovered that on special pages (Special:SpecialPages and others) displays current version of the template. Please, help me fix this bug. Thank you very much in advance!
Hamachi (talk) 07:57, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Merry Christmas. It sounds like a caching issue. Try adding ?action=purge (as in: http://rus.tekkenpedia.com/?action=purge) which forces MediaWiki to discard and rebuilt the cache. Let me know if that helps! Samuel (talk) 21:40, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Merry Christmas to you too! I tried it, but this does not work. Pages still displays old version of the template.
Hamachi (talk) 07:26, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Hmm. Try purging the sidebar template page or the news page and see if that fixes it. Sometimes it can hold on to old pages until an edit is made to them. You may just have to open the other pages and save them again each time you make a change, it's a limitation of MediaWiki. Samuel (talk) 23:04, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
I already do this, but this didn't help. Saving page helped, but it will take to much time to update every page on the wiki (953 pages) every time when I'm adding news. Also, strange, but I find the same problem with the number of views of the pages (this problem is also in this wiki). For example: when I will open article about Lucky Chloe, when I'm in account, here is 9011 number of views and it updates every time when I open this page again, but if I will read this article anonymously (out of account) it will be every time 6,381, even if I will reopen the page. So I think, that when number of views of Lucky Chloe's article was at 6,381 number, something was happened with server or MediaWiki that stop a progressive update of the current states of the articles, numbers of views and etc. Maybe, this happened after update. This can be wrong theory but why I think so: article about Lucky Chloe was created at 7 December, update was at 9 December, so I guess that at 9 December number of views was at 6,381 and after update this problem had appeared. Maybe update had something that had become in conflict with CustomNavBlocks extension. Please, can you check is this a reason of problem? This need not just for me alone, but for all readers to read Russian Tekkenpedia's news normally.
Hamachi (talk) 10:06, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Ahh, I understand the problem now. I'm due to update the version of MediaWiki shortly and all the extensions. I'll try that then we can check if the problem still exists. It will be a couple of days, I'm still busy with Christmas and family. Will try to do tomorrow night. Samuel (talk) 03:49, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I've updated MediaWiki to the latest version, I suspect that this won't fix the problem though. The extension being used is: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CustomNavBlocks however it is now a couple of years old and I suspect has bugs with the new version of MediaWiki.

If this doesn't work, we have a couple more options. One could be creating a custom skin for the Russian version of the site. This would allow you to customise things however you want, the problem with this is that it would be hard to keep it up to date with the original version of the skin when they release new updates to it. The second option is that you could edit the CommonJS page to add JavaScript to every user that comes to the site (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interface/JavaScript) and just use that to insert the images where you want.

I Googled around but I couldn't find any extensions for placing images in the sidebar expect for the CustomNavBlocks. Very annoying. Samuel (talk) 00:18, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry me for my potentially stupid question (I'm just never have been worked with JavaScript before): can I add in common.js template somehow like {{template's-name}} in MediaWiki and put it in sidebar area?
Hamachi (talk) 08:10, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
No, you would have to write some JavaScript to insert content into the sidebar, it's not really very easy. How are you with editing HTML? Samuel (talk) 08:41, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
No, I just mean if that can it be added not by coping template's code and make the same but with JavaScript, but like {{--}} displays template page in other pages. You know like make edit on the template's page and it displays last edited version with {{}} thing, without making two same templates "here and there". I started to learn HTML in past year, so I beginner in this. For now I'm try and learns how to use HTML in the site creation and layout (before I used only HTML's tags and only in work with MediaWiki, to create something like this).
Hamachi (talk) 13:32, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Good news: I find that twitter-feed widget is working now, so I'll add it to the main page if don't mind.
Hamachi (talk) 18:53, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Awesome, do it. Samuel (talk) 05:28, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Hey, tell me what you think about this other website I'm making: http://beatdown.herokuapp.com/styles
Nice idea, but I don't completely understand: why there RLTekken if there are some fighting styles that absent in the games?
Hamachi (talk) 18:23, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Also, let me know when you've added the widget. I might add to the homepage of the Tekkenpedia as well if it works well. Samuel (talk) 23:55, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Hm, I already added it to the main page here and in rus Tekkenpedia.
Hamachi (talk) 06:44, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
