Seperating move articles[edit]

We should probably hold on seperating the move articles until the SMW thing is actually working properly, as I currently spot several problems, e.g. neither HTML nor Wiki Markup working in it. Also, it would look better to use the full name, i.e. "Tsunami Kicks (Heihachi Mishima)" instead of just "Tsunami Kicks (Heihachi)".
Agree with using the full name in the title rather then just the first name. SMW is working correctly, it won't parse wiki markup in values. Think of it like this, the "Damage" (damage done by a move) property is numeric, it can only be a number or string of numbers (so either 15 or 12,15). It can't be "Tekken 5: 15, 12 - Tekken 4: 14, 12. This means that we may need to split each of the moves up by Tekken installment.

Again, nothing I'm doing is final, I think I can adapt the existing move templates into tables automatically using DPL. I'm going to continue to experiment with SMW in the mean time though as it will be a bit more flexible then using DPL. Samuel 22:24, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I was refering more to the problems in "Command" in general and "From" and "To" in terms of chain moves. See Left Right Axe Kick for the latter issue. We need to fix this, with a template if possible. Something that is input like

{{<name of template>|name1=|command=|name2=}}

  • <name of template> is obviously the name of the template
  • name1 is the article name that it should link to
  • command is the command for the linked move and is for the "chains from" in the move template only, so that it looks like it used to.
  • name2 is for the "chains from" in SMW thingy, in case there's a parenthesis in name1, e.g. Tsunami Kicks (Heihachi Mishima), which would just look silly on the SMW thing. name2 is therefore written without the parentehis, i.e. just Tsunami Kicks. If there's no parenthesis in name1, name2 is just left empty, in which case it should automatically default to being equal to name1 (if you get what I mean).

This is just a suggestion, and I have no idea of whether or not it would work, or how to even implement it properly :/

I haven't forgotten about the Tekkenpedia move lists, I have some urgent video work to get through the next few days, after that I'll come back to the movelists. Samuel 09:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

New Users and New Pages[edit]

You know, I'm starting to get sick of these new users making stupid pages. Isn't there anything we could do about it, like keeping new users from making any before gaining the approval of Sysops?
Mokujin Sprite.png
Hecko Xtalk - blog - anime rants

That would be counter-productive and bad for our image. If there's no sysop around for 3 days, users who might have valuable info or just notice an error to be correct might just not care any longer. And even so, with nothing to "hold against" a new user, all would just be approved anyway, and if they then go on to do something bad, the sysops would have to clean it up anyway, making an approval system redundant, extra work for a sysop.

There's been a LOT of spamming on this site for the past few days. I suspect that one person, or a group, is creating multiple accounts to create several new pages with external link to scam others. I suggest that a new process for joining the site should be made...And sorry to intrude.

SMW integration roadmap or what the heck is going on with Heiachi's movelists!?[edit]

I've started the implementation of creating the move lists in SMW (or Semantic MediaWiki). This system is like a database for wikis, and when finished, will allow us to finally create proper, automatically updated movelists. I initially thought this was going to be fairly easy but after a bit of playing around I realised its going to be a bit more tricky then I first though. I've rolled back the changes I made to the current moves and I've created a new section of the site where I'll be working on Heihachis moves. Please stay out of this area for now!'. Going forwards:

  • Complete testing with two of Heihachi's Tekken 6: BR moves to make sure this implementation is going to work.
  • Expand out to the rest of Heihachi's movelist to make sure its going to work.
  • Setup forms that allow easy addition of moves.
  • Expand SMW to include all characters moves over all Tekken installments.

This is going to be a massive job and I'm under the pump at the moment shooting and cutting video for the Martial Wiki, I'm also busy behind the scenes trying to optimise and combine the various wikis hosted on the Wikipedia Network. Things make not look like they're going anywhere but I'm working away on things almost every night :)

Thanks guys

Bugs[edit]

Mokujin Sprite.png
Hecko Xtalk - blog - anime rants
15:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I noticed a few 'bugs' around the site that would require some attention.
  1. Not even sysops can access the edit page of another person's social profile. This is an issue in several ways. For one, potential slander cannot be removed by anyone other than the user who wrote it, meaning that e.g. user discrimination cannot be dealt with, because it cannot be removed. Also, many dead links, which then appear in the wanted pages list stem from social profiles, and cannot be changed so that they direct to the proper place. So sysops should be able to access other people's social profiles.
  2. The Character Relationships page is messed up in several ways.
  • The first bullet point is next to the ToC instead of the name "Alex".
  • The top of the page says "When you click a link to a character's name, it will take you to their section on this article, not their own article.", however, this is not true, the links DO take people to the characters' respective articles.
  • There should be made a template to stop how much of a section the widget/programme/add-on/whatever, reads, since it has included all the categories as well (which is shouldn't). A simple noinclude tag does not make a difference.

There were others, but with time, I forgot :/

Noted, I'm going to be away in the US for a month so I'll have to deal with it when I come back. Samuel 00:11, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Missing Articles[edit]

It would appear that everything that used to be in the Tekkenpedia namespace was wiped completely clean a few months ago. Do you have backups of these crucial pages? --Hecko 21:15, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I believe it's because of his T6: BR CG art image. It's too large, and that's what's causing the error. At least, that's what I think. I've tried to update this image a few times, but it wouldn't allow me to do so. I think it needs to be removed in order for his article to be viewable again.

Partner[edit]

Why not combine or partner with tekken wiki.

I'm not sure what you mean by partner or which other Tekken wiki you're talking about. I'll assume you mean merging this wiki with the Tekken wiki on Wikia. Their are two reasons why I don't, 1st is that Wikia is a for profit company where as the Tekkenpedia is non profit (all advertising revenue goes back into the hosting, plus my own money and time) secondly is that they don't allow the same level of control over the server as I can get by hosting it with Dreamhost.

Samuel 04:18, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh sorry. The reason I was asking this because the levels of users editing is extremely low than before. Isn't their any way to make new people make new users by doing some kind of advertisement or something else?

This is because anonymous editing has been disabled, you must log in to edit the wiki. The reason for this change was the amount of vandalism that was occurring and that Tekken just hasn't changed that much since version six came out. When Tekken 7 arrives I will renable edits by all visitors to the site until the wiki is up to date with information about the new version. Samuel 23:14, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Vandals[edit]

Lots of vandals are visiting Tekkenpedia again. We should create a sandbox like they have in Wikipedia or something to stop and prevent vandals. --Tekken-EX 06:31, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia's sandbox: [1]. Every now and then, Wikipedia's sandbox is restored to it's original state by one of their bots. We should have something like that. --Tekken-EX 07:48, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't see how that will help? It seems to me just a place that is for carrying out experiments in wiki syntax, not preventing spam. I'll have a look around for some anti vandal plug-ins. Samuel 23:58, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for the promotion (I really appreciate it!!!) and I also have one question. Are we allowed to put Tekken matches on galleries?

I think if we have a separate section for them, away from the main galleries. Perhaps something like "Notable Matches"? Samuel 23:56, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

(Katsuhiro Harada) tweets about Tekkenpedia[edit]

Hay Samuel, ask Mr. Harada on twitter to check out tekkenpedia, he told me its one of nicest sites of tekken but he's says a lot of our information is wrong :(.. but seriously think something is going on and a lot confusing information about tekken story is being reveal.. like jinpachi.. harada reveals that a evil ghost spirit possess jinpachi over some revenge... but when play tekken 5 and you lose against jinpachi his ending states that he is being control by the devil?????? Also when you play with heihachi in the story mode and beat jinpachi, heihachi says that he has the devil blood..?? I just wonder I much information we got wrong?? User: Teriko

Do you own this site? I saw on Mr Harada's facebook page a guy named Andrew started to talking about this site so here I am. Paje Johnson

Thanks. This site seems pretty cool. I like it better than the Tekken Wiki.

Yh well fell free to enjoy and edit on this site. User:KazamaBoy

Gotta Say[edit]

This wiki could use some clean up. I just saw that someone on twitter who spoke to Harada about the fact this site stated Christie as being confirmed by Namco to have been based on Tyra Banks. He clearly confirmed this as untrue, and I saw he talked about how a lot of the info on here was wrong before this. It's obvious too, on the character pages there are large numbers of statements that are untrue and contain no reference material. A small example, on pretty much every character page, people have added certain likes and dislikes for the characters that are completely unfounded or just wrong. Such as Anna Williams liking Bruce Irvin, which clearly was put there only because they have both worked for Kazuya. Same for Nina apparently liking Eddie Gordo. These kinds of statements along with others are prominent on character pages. Like I mentioned, it's because this site isn't referencing it's statements. There's also plenty of point of view information as well as speculation. If you want Harada's approval that this site isn't bad, then you need to clean it up. Bazooka 02:13, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

This wiki reflects the communities view of how the relationships between characters exists. If you feel that a relationship is wrong then you can argue your case on the characters talk page and if your argument is right then it will be changed. The Tekken story is ambiguous and inconsistent, their is no one correct story, this means that the Tekkenpedia cannot possibly be 100% correct on all information. All wikis exist in this state to some degree. Samuel 02:57, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

If that's your argument to what I just said about how clearly Anna has never even been hinted at having any like towards Bruce than it just goes to show why this wiki is looked at the way it is. Also, that argument is completely backed up by the idea you think speculation is validly stated information. There's a difference between not being able to get everything 100% right, and ignoring clear fact by making things up based on almost nothing. I shouldn't have to go out of my way to explain to people on the talk page why a certain thing is wrong when I could just explain it in my edit description and that's when if someone had a disagreement they should take it to the talk page. But if you honestly think like that, and you think the many incorrect things on this site are validated because of it, it just goes to show why Harada said what he did about this site. And why would you create this site for information on the series if you're going to try and back up wrong information, and if an excuse is inconsistencies in the story it should be correctly covered in the statements as being inconsistent rather than coming to personal judgments. Bazooka 07:36, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to tell me other then you're upset that some of the information on the site is incorrect. That's fine, I agree with you, now what do you want to do about fixing it? It sounds to me that you're complaining about concept of wikis in general, i.e. that anyone can overwrite your changes. I don't think their is a problem with the way things are at the moment. I agree that their is some incorrect information on the pages at the moment but this a problem of wikis in general, not just the Tekkenpedia. YouriKamachi below is wrong is saying the decision of what is right or wrong with the site lies with me. It lies with the combined efforts of everyone visiting the site. So, to sum up. I'm happy enough to change the way the site works. I'm happy enough to listen to suggestions of how I should change the way the site works. However if you're just going to complain about the way wikis work (some users insert incorrect information) or my changes got overwritten without providing some suggestions how I can do this then you're not likely to get anywhere. Samuel 21:19, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree and disagree with the user above. For example, the Nina liking Eddy thing, I've corrected that weeks ago. Now I don't know if another user undid my edit or put Eddy's name back in the Like section, but as you can see, SOME users ARE trying to be accurate. BUT at the same time, this is a wiki, NOT an actual encylopedia. I also disagree with letting random IP users edit pages on this site at the moment as well, but the purpose of this or any wiki site is to let anyone add information they feel is needed. Besides, it's not our decision of what's right and wrong, it's the creator of the site which is Samuel [the Admin]. He clearly stated what he wants this site to be, so just please drop it unless the admin addresses it again. I DO agree that this site should be more organized and with other issues several of users wouldn't agree with, but ultimately, it's the admin's choice.
This is incorrect. Only users that are logged in can edit character pages. Anon users can edit all other pages with the exception of the homepage. Samuel 21:19, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Getting a higher Post[edit]

Could you please tell me how to get a high rank on Tekkenpedia. Please don't promote me just because I am asking you. I want to achieve the rank. I have made a few small edits to the site. One important edit that I made is that I added the Scenario Campaign Story to the Story of Tekken 6.

Score is related to the number and size of the edits you've made. For example, if you were to record examples of moves on youtube and embed them on each characters page, that would be a great source of points. Samuel 04:46, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
