Introduction
Yoshimitsu (吉光 Yoshimitsu) was introduced in Tekken and he has returned for all subsequent sequels. Additionally, an analogous character bearing the same name, weapon, clan, and basic information, was later carried over into Namco’s Soul Series of fighting games as a secret character, making his debut in Soul Calibur and returned for all of the sequels. Considering his frequent reappearances and his staple Namco status, it is reasonable to assume that he will likewise appear in all future sequels as he is a favorite among fans. Yoshimitsu is unofficially nicknamed Yoshi
Fighting Style
Yoshimitsu's fighting style incorporates a blend of ninjutsu, sword attacks, and special stances. Wielding a sword, he has many attacks that utilize it. He can perform slashes with it, use it to impale his opponent, and rotate it with his mechanical left hand in a windmill manner (he can also use this method to fly). Another use of his sword is in "Harakiri" moves, where he impales himself and his opponent with it, damaging them both.
He has many stances. One is "Meditation", where he turns his back to his opponent and heals himself. A variation of this is "Indian Stance", where he heals himself while sitting Indian style. Another of his stances is "Manji Dragonfly", where he rotates his sword and his mechanical left hand to levitate in midair. He also has a "Flea" stance, where he stands on his sword by placing the tip into the ground and wrapping his hands and feet around the hilt.
As of Tekken 6, Yoshimitsu can now sheathe his sword and fight without it, and he can also use two swords in some of his attacks.
Sword
Yoshimitsu's sword was shown from the very beginning of the series. It turns out that it is a cursed blade and Yoshimitsu has to find a way to control it back. From Tekken 3 onwards, the blade has a green glow for it is passed down from leader to leader of the Manji Clan and each time it is passed down to the next owner the past leader sacrifices himself, having his skill and power go to the blade. In his Tekken 6 ending, his new sword Fumaken reverts back to his original sword, and when he hits the ground with it a big glow shoots out of the ground.
Trivia
General
- Yoshimitsu is an assumed name which is given to all the leaders of the Manji Clan. The blade wielded by Yoshimitsu is also called "Yoshimitsu", presumably because it holds the spirits of all the former leaders.
- Yoshimitsu's sword is strong enough to cut stone in half (as seen in Kunimitsu's Tekken 2 ending)
- Yoshimitsu has generally changed a lot during each tournament (his clothes, his masks, etc.)
- Like Heihachi Mishima, Nina Williams, and Paul Phoenix, Yoshimitsu has been in all of the Tekken games.
- Yoshimitsu was the first one to say an actual phrase in the Tekken series. In one of his Tekken 3 winning poses, he is heard chanting a fragment of the Heart Sutra: "Shiki soku ze kuu".
- Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu (along with Mokujin, Combot, and Unknown when mimicking either of them) are the only playable characters who uses a weapon.
- Yoshimitsu is human and wears different masks in each game, despite his left mechanical arm from Tekken 2 onward.
- Yoshimitsu is one of the few characters who knows that Heihachi Mishima threw Kazuya Mishima in a volcano.
- Yoshimitsu is able to spit out noxious gas, teleport, turn invisible, run at an amazing speed, and able to fly if he rotates his sword.
- Gary Ray Sterns will be acting as Yoshimitsu in the Tekken 2010 film.
- In Yoshimitsu's bio in the game manual, he is referred to as a "Space Ninja", presumably due to his unusual appearance.
- Yoshimitsu's sub-boss is Ganryu.
- Yoshimitsu's sub-boss is Kunimitsu.
- Yoshimitsu's sub-bosses in the Tekken Force side game are (in order of appearance) himself, Mokujin, Bryan Fury, and Heihachi Mishima.
- Yoshimitsu's Tekken 3 incarnation was also one of the bonus characters available to play as or against in Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis, for the Playstation, alongside fellow Namco characters, including Richard Miller (from Time Crisis), Pac-Man, Reiko Nagase, and fellow Tekken characters Heihachi Mishima and Eddy Gordo. Furthermore, Yoshimitsu's Tekken 3 "energy sword" is one of the secret tennis rackets unlocked during the game.
- Yoshimitsu was given some new sounds, and he says MMMMM and HIYAWOH!.
Tekken 5 & Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
- Yoshimitsu's sub-bosses are Raven and Bryan Fury.
- Yoshimitsu has a special move that only works when fighting Bryan Fury. The move is an imitation of Bryan's Fury Taunt, meaning that Yoshimitsu will lift his knee and wave his fist, but instead of laughing like Bryan, he spews Bad Breath from his mouth ([1]).
- Yoshimitsu can be customized to look like his Tekken 3 Player 1 incarnation (T5:DR only).
- When successfully preforming the kamikaze feint move, a distinct "oops" can be heard afterward. (right, X+O, left)
Tekken 6 & Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion
- Yoshimitsu has gone under the most drastic change regarding his play style, compared to the other characters. The canon explanation for this is that his sword is now losing power, forcing him to use a new fighting style, Kenjutsu from the Manji clan; this includes both dual sword fighting and pure fist fighting. His new sword is called Fumaken, which has the ability to control his old cursed blade "Yoshimitsu".
- Yoshimitsu's sword attacks used to be unblockable, however, in Tekken 6, some of them can actually be blocked ([2] [3]).
- In the Scenario Campaign of Tekken 6, Yoshimitsu is a boss on Kigan Island.
Other
- Yoshimitsu rivals in Tekken Card Challenge are Paul Phoenix, Doctor Boskonovitch, and Heihachi Mishima.
- In the Tekken Forever comic, Yoshimitsu is friends with Lei Wulong and they fight Bryan Fury together.
Story
Yoshimitsu is the head of the Manji Party, he enters the 1st Tournament to rob Ganryu's money and return it to the poor.
Ending Animation "Robin Hood"
Yoshimitsu and some other Manji clan members ride through what appears to be an alley of a village. They are on horses. Some people are in this alley. Yoshimitsu opens a box, and a lot of dollar bills come out of it. Marshall Law opens his mouth wide, while Marshall's wife and a young Forest Law looks at the falling money happily. Yoshimitsu looks back at the people as him and his Manji Clan members are shown riding away. The three of them wave goodbye. Yoshimitsu and his Manji clan members are shown riding away again. The phrase "The End" is then shown in white letters on a black screen.
The leader of the "Manji Group", a group of notorious thieves. The scientist named Boskonovitch, who once saved his life, has been abducted by Kazuya. Yoshimitsu will stop at nothing to rescue Boskonovitch. To do so, he has entered the tournament.
Ending Animation "The Rescue"
A white helicopter is shown flying away. Yoshimitsu looks up at it. Then, he jumps onto the helicopter and breaks the windshield. Yoshimitsu grabs Doctor Boskonovitch and jumps out of the helicopter. Yoshimitsu uses his prosthetic arm and his sword to hover as the helicopter explodes in the background. Then, the camera focuses on Yoshimitsu.
Version 1
Yoshimitsu is the leader of the Manji Clan, a notorious gang of Robin Hood-like thieves. He entered the Tournament upon learning that his friend, Dr. Boskonovitch, needs Ogre's blood to live. Yoshimitsu now fights to save the life of the man who once saved him.
Version 2
Lending a helping hand... Boskonovitch created the Cold Sleep machine during his experiments in his search for eternal life. The technology, still unproven, was used to preserve his young daughter, who suddenly passed away. Yoshimitsu raised research funds, and as the leader of the Manji party, he helped the poor and disadvantaged.
Yoshimitsu visited Boskonovitch when he learned of the many martial artist disappearances. Yoshimitsu was surprised to find Boskonovitch suffering from a mysterious pathological organism. It's believed to have been contracted during lab experiments while making the Cold Sleep machine.
Boskonovitch claims he needs blood from Ogre to live. Indebted to Boskonovitch for saving his life, Yoshimitsu enters the tournament to help an old friend.
Ending Animation "Ogre's Blood"
A bubbling green substance is shown in a jar labeled "Ogre's Blood". Yoshimitsu is shown looking at a rat in a cage. Next, it is revealed that Doctor Boskonovitch is beside him. They are apparently testing Ogre's blood on the rat. The rat starts to drink it. Yoshimitsu and Doctor Boskonovitch turn their heads and look at each other. After a few seconds, they go back to watching the rat drink Ogre's blood. The rat turns its face so that it is facing the screen. Dramatic music starts playing. Yoshimitsu is shown running out of the building while holding Doctor Boskonovitch under one of his arms. The rat, now gigantic, bursts through the building.

Canon Ending:

Yoshimitsu is featured as a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament. However, Tekken Tag Tournament is not a part of the Tekken series' canonical storyline.
Ending Animation "Standing Sword Salute"
Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu are about to fight in Yoshimitsu's first Tekken Tag Tournament stage. They run at each other. As they run towards each other, Yoshimitsu creates clones of himself, most likely in order to confuse or distract Kunimitsu. They strike with their weapons, and the clones of Yoshimitsu disappear. After they clash, Kunimitsu falls to the ground. Then, Yoshimitsu performs his "Standing Sword Salute" win animation that he had in Tekken and Tekken 2.
As the leader of the Manji Party, Yoshimitsu dedicated himself to providing food, medical assistance, and shelter to the ever-increasing number of political refugees around the world. Unfortunately, with a constant lack of necessary funding and manpower, Yoshimitsu was unsure about the future of his organization.
When Yoshimitsu heard about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, he envisioned a union between the Manji Party and the Mishima Zaibatsu. With this dream in mind, Yoshimitsu decides to enter the Tournament immediately. He must defeat Heihachi Mishima at any cost.
Ending Animation "The Robbery"
Text
When word of victory reached the Manji Clan, they were ecstatic--their long-awaited wish would finally come true...
Yoshimitsu, however, knew better than to trust Heihachi Mishima. Yoshimitsu gave an order to his clan members and headed to the Mishima Manor.
End of the text
Yoshimitsu is shown walking up to Heihachi Mishima, who is surrounded by a bunch of men in suits, in the Mishima Manor. When Yoshimitsu stops walking, Heihachi says, "You may have won the tournament... But I will never hand over Mishima Zaibatsu to the Manji Party! You Manji are nothing but a bunch of con artists. You incite the masses with your false promises--and get in our way." While Heihachi says this, the men in suits pull guns on Yoshimitsu. Yoshimitsu replies, "Those who tread the path of evil shall face judgment eventually." Heihachi laughs. Heihachi is interrupted when someone on an intercom says, "Someone has broken into the central treasury vault!
Sir, the Manji have lifted the entire vault with a helicopter!" Heihachi replies by saying, "What?!" Heihachi listens to the sound of the helicopter for a few seconds. Then, the camera focuses on Yoshimitsu for a few seconds. Angry, Heihachi shouts, "You! Shoot him!" The men in suits shoot at Yoshimitsu. The bullets just ricochet off of Yoshimitsu's body armor. Yoshimitsu pulls out a smoke grenade and throws it on the ground. A smoke screen comes out of the object, allowing Yoshimitsu to fly through the roof of the building (Yoshimitsu uses the wings on his back to fly). Heihachi runs up to the place where Yoshimitsu flew through the roof and screams, "After him!" Heihachi looks up at the place where Yoshimitsu flew through the roof of the building and says, "Damn you!"

Tekken 5 Manual Version
Yoshimitsu, head of the Manji Party and Helpful Ninja,
During the King Of Iron Fist Tournament 4 he rescued an injured Bryan Fury and taken him to Dr Boskonovitch's lab.
When Yoshimitsu arrive at Boskonovitch's lab he found the doctor and his colleagues dead. This was a thanks to Bryan.
"I will never forgive him for what's he done," says Yoshimitsu. He learns Bryan entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. Yoshimitsu shines up his sword and enters the fight.
Interludes
Stage 4: Raven
Yoshimitsu challenges Raven and calls him a wannabe ninja (in reply to Raven's criticisms of Yoshimitsu as not being an actual ninja), leading to Raven's determination to not lose this fight (though this is NOT his main objective).
If the player loses, Raven will try to teach Yoshimitsu the hand signs of his style of ninjutsu, with much hilarious results (like Raven kicking Yoshimitsu in the shin, saying "You got it all wrong!" and again about to smack Yoshimitsu's head, proclaiming "No!You're hopeless!")
If the player wins, Yoshimitsu does one of his win animations.
Stage 7: Bryan Fury
Yoshimitsu finds Bryan and defeats him. He is about to deliver the final blow before Bryan runs away and Yoshimitsu in pursuit.
Final Stage: Jinpachi Mishima
Yoshimitsu walks through Final Stage 2. Jinpachi (in human form) walks up behind him and says, "I'm impressed that you've made it this far. I am Jinpachi Mishima. My goal... My goal is to destroy all existence!" Shortly after Jinpachi starts to speak, Yoshimitsu turns around and notices him. After he finishes speaking, Jinpachi transforms into his "Devil" form.
Ending Animation "Retribution"
Bryan Fury is walking towards a destroyed and burning building with a gatling gun. A closeup of Bryan's face is shown. Bryan looks around the place. He notices something and starts shooting at it. It is revealed that it was Yoshimitsu that Bryan noticed. Yoshimitsu runs, trying to dodge the bullets. Yoshimitsu successfully does this, and then he disappears. Since Yoshimitsu disappeared, Bryan stops shooting and looks around. Suddenly, Yoshimitsu reappears from above. A closeup of Bryan's eyes is shown as he gasps, noticing Yoshimitsu. Yoshimitsu slices through Bryan with his sword, and then Yoshimitsu lands behind Bryan. Bryan screams in agony as he explodes. A closeup of Yoshimitsu's face is shown as he says, "Retribution."
Yoshimitsu's storyline is unchanged between Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection.

'Endings
http://www.soulpedia.net/wiki/Yoshimitsu#Ending
Trying to avenge his fallen Manji clan comrades, while going after Bryan Fury, Yoshimitsu realizes that his sword is weakening. His sword is a cursed blade. By killing evil doers and villains the sword would retain its power, otherwise the cursed sword will make the user go insane. Yoshimitsu realizes that he can no longer use his old sword and decides to use another blade called Fumaken, that seals the properties of the cursed sword. He then decides to enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6.
Ending Animation
Yoshimitsu defeats Azazel and retrieves the orb of "devil" power. As Yoshimitsu was surveying it, the orb immediately levitates, circles around him and then merges with the sword. We then see the "devil" powers corrupting the sword and poisoning Yoshimitsu, the wielder. After a few seconds of agony, we then see Yoshimitsu fully corrupted by the sword (apparent due to the eyes glowing red) and does a slash that cuts half the temple in a diagonal fashion.
Yoshimitsu's storyline is unchanged between Tekken 6 and Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion.
Yoshimitsu appears in the Tekken Movie. He tries to kill Jin by the orders of Kazuya but is defeated.
Yoshimitsu will be featured as a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, a non-canonical Tekken game.
