Doctor Boskonovitch (February 2008) |
Hwoarang (March 2008) |
Mokujin (April 2008) |
Doctor Geppetto Boskonovitch, also referred to as simply Doctor B. or Boskonovitch, is a character who has appeared throughout the Tekken series. Although he's only been playable in the console version of Tekken 3, he has done much work "behind the scenes" in the Tekken universe, such as completing Prototype Jack, creating Roger and Alex, not to mention supplying his friend, Yoshimitsu, with a mechanized prosthetic left arm. |
Hwoarang is a character who first appeared in Tekken 3, and he has appeared in all successive Tekken games since. His fighting style is Taekwondo. Baek Doo San is his mentor, and he has an ongoing rivalry with Jin Kazama, who he has seeked to defeat ever since Jin fought him to a draw before The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. |
Mokujin is a wooden training dummy, carved from a 2000-year-old oak tree, that first appeared as a playable character in Tekken 3 and has returned in every subsequent game since, with the exception of Tekken 4. Mokujin is unique in the way that it has no moveset of its own, but mimics the fighting styles of the other playable characters, an art "style" which is refered to as "Mokujin-Ken". She always wears purple with her first costume, and orange for her second costume. Kunimitsu has not appeared in any other Tekken games, leaving fans to speculate about what happened to her. |
Tiger Jackson is a playable character in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament, who serves as a "pallette swap" for Eddy Gordo. Thus far, nothing about him is known other than his obvious love for the 70s. The lack of background information, as well as the fact the he is a pallette swap of Eddy's, has led fans to believe that the two are one and the same, however, Namco has neither denied or confirmed anything. |
Jun Kazama is a playable character in Tekken 2 and the non-canonical Tekken Tag Tournament. She is the mother of Jin Kazama, whom she had with Kazuya Mishima. Her fighting style is Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts. She is an officer of the WWWC, a wildlife protection organization, and she is also highly psychic. His fighting style is Tae Kwon Do, and he is also a teacher of Tae Kwon Do, with Hwoarang being one of his best and closest students. Before The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Baek accidentally killed his unnamed father, whom he was a student of, during a sparring session. This resulted in Baek going on a rampage and destroying several dojos, with Marshall Law's being one of the worst hit. This sparked a rivalry between Baek and Law. |
Roger is a playable character in Tekken 2 and the non-canonical Tekken Tag Tournament. He is a transgenic military kangaroo. His fighting style is Commando Wrestling. Kazuya sold his soul to an entity known as "Devil" in order to survive and get revenge on Heihachi, which he did by the end of Tekken 1. As of Tekken 6 / Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, he is the new head of G Corporation, and he is leading the battle against the Mishima Zaibatsu and Jin (the new head of the company), who have declared war on the entire world. |

After Kazuya was thrown off of a cliff by his father, Heihachi Mishima, he sold his soul to Devil in order to survive and get revenge on his father. At first, Devil and Kazuya were represented as two separate entities, but from Tekken 4 and onwards, Devil is merged with Kazuya. |
Unknown is the final boss in Tekken Tag Tournament, and she is also unlockable as a playable character. Her fighting style is Mimicry, which appears to stem from the wolf-like creature possessing her and controlling her body. In her ending, she manages to escape from the creature's control after it tries to take over her body and complete itself, and she apparently kills it in the process. Very little is known about her, and because Tekken Tag Tournament is a non-canonical game, her canonicity is disputed. Kuma is also deeply in love with the other bear in the series, Panda, although she clearly shows no interest in him. As of Tekkens 5 and 6, Kuma's motivation for entering the tournaments is to defeat the Mishima Zaibatsu's current leader (Jinpachi Mishima and Jin Kazama, respectively), securing the position for himself in honor of his master, Heihachi Mishima. |

She is the daughter of a Native American woman and a Hong Kong man, who had been sent by Heihachi Mishima to find an ancient treasure on Native American land. She enters the first tournament to take revenge on Heihachi after learning that his men had killed her father, and she enters the second tournament to rescue her mother, who had been kidnapped by Kazuya Mishima as part of a scheme to obtain the pendant worn around Michelle's neck. Julia Chang, Michelle's adoptive daughter, replaces Michelle from Tekken 3 onwards, though both Changs are present in the Tag games. |
Tetsujin (August 2012) |
Ogre (September 2012) |
Miharu Hirano (October 2012) |
Tetsujin is a character who has, to date, only appeared as a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament. His appearance is that of a silver metallic Mokujin, though winning ten consecutive matches with him will have Tetsujin take on a golden form until he eventually loses. Like Mokujin, Tetsujin uses a "Mimicry" fighting style (labeled as "Tetsujin-Ken" in his command list), swapping out styles each time he is tagged in to fight. Tetsujin is chosen by pressing the "Square" button on Mokujin's character box, and with only one costume, he cannot fight himself. While making no further appearances, it is possible to customize Mokujin to resemble Tetsujin from Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and onward. |
True Ogre is a character that makes his debut as the final boss of Tekken 3, returning for Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. As his name implies, he is Ogre's true form, which is reached after Ogre absorbs Heihachi Mishima (or Jin Kazama if Heihachi is the character being played as) upon being defeated. Known as The God of Fighting, his style incorporates various moves from multiple Tekken characters, mixing them with his inhuman abilities of flight, teleportation, and fire breathing, while also making use of his tail and snake arm. While his first form is defeated by Paul Phoenix, True Ogre is defeated by Jin at the end of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. A larger, more monstrous version of True Ogre appears as the final boss of Tekken 5's "Devil Within" side game, though it is unclear whether or not it is canonical. |
Miharu Hirano is a character that debuts in Tekken 4, as a palette swap for Ling Xiaoyu. She returns in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, available as a DLC character with her own character slot separate from Xiaoyu. She is best friends and schoolmates with Ling Xiaoyu at Mishima High School, and the two share identical movesets (though Miharu is given a good amount of her own unique moves in TTT2), with fan speculation being that Xiaoyu taught her the style due to their close relationship. Miharu's design was drastically altered between the two games, donning more revealing attire and gaining a notable increase in breast size. In addition to her own, Miharu makes appearances in Xiaoyu, Alisa, and Panda's connected TTT2 endings, where she wears her T4 schoolgirl uniform. |
Lee Chaolan (November 2012) |
Armor King I (December 2012) |
Sebastian (January 2013) |
Lee Chaolan, nicknamed "The Silver-haired Demon", is a character that made his debut in the first Tekken, and has returned for all sequels, with the exception of Tekken 3. His fighting style is listed simply as "Martial Arts" in the Tekken 5 booklet, a style which started out incorporating the majority of Marshall Law's moves and Paul Phoenix's hopkick strings, but would later evolve into a much more unique style, including a signature "Hitman" stance that Lee can go into from many of his moves. Lee is Heihachi Mishima's adopted son, and he shares a strong rivalry with his adoptive brother, Kazuya. He is well-known for his catchphrase "Excellent!", which is the final word in all of his endings that have dialogue in them. After being banished from the Mishima Zaibatsu following The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Lee relocated to a mansion in the Bahamas, where he founded a humanoid robot manufacturing company under an aliased name, Violet Systems, and bought out a large portion of stock in the G Corporation. Kazuya is a strong motivation for Lee's entries into the tournaments, as he blames Kazuya for ruining his dream of finally gaining control over the Mishima Zaibatsu in T5, and in T6, he enters upon discovering that Kazuya is controlling G Corporation behind the scenes and using its military force to take part in the world war with Mishima Zaibatsu. |
Armor King (the First) is a character that debuted in the first Tekken, and he returns for Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag Tournament. He fights using professional wrestling techniques, taking many moves from King (the First), his friend and rival. Though he seeks to defeat King in both tournaments, Armor King also becomes concerned with his well-being after many absences from wrestling tournaments, and upon finding him in an alleyway in a drunken haze, Armor King brings King back to his senses and motivates him to enter into The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2. Armor King is also responsible for training the second King to carry on the legacy of the first following his death at the hands of Ogre fifteen years later. Armor King is eventually replaced in the series by his younger brother, who seeks revenge against Craig Marduk, the man who murdered the first Armor King in an Arizona bar brawl prior to the events of Tekken 4. |
Sebastian is a character that made his debut as a playable character in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Employed by Rochefort Enterprises' owner, he works as a butler for the man's teenage daughter. He greatly cherishes being able to serve the young girl, and he even makes a vow to protect her with his life when the two team together. Sebastian's first appearance in the series was in Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection in Lili's ending, and his next appearance was in her Tekken 6 ending. His fighting style is the same as Lili's, but he uses moves that she abandoned (ex. b+1 and f+1+2) along with ones unique to him (ex. u/f+4 and WS+3,3+4) |
Eddy Gordo (February 2013) |
Prototype Jack (March 2013) |
Craig Marduk (April 2013) |
Eddy Gordo was introduced to the series in Tekken 3, being the first character to represent the Capoeira fighting style (the second would be his "costume swap" Tiger Jackson, and the third, his female counterpart Christie Monteiro). The son of a wealthy Brazilian family, his life took a tragic turn at age nineteen when he came home from school one day to find that his father had been shot and fatally wounded. With his final words, Eddy's father encouraged him to falsely admit to committing the crime so that he could hide away safely in prison. After his eight year sentence was over, Eddy would enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, having been taught the art of Capoeira by an old master during his incarceration. Determined to exact revenge against his father's murderers, he would soon discover that Kazuya Mishima had a hand in it. Coincidentally, Eddy would later on wind up working for Kazuya's son Jin in the Mishima Zaibatsu, for the sole purpose of saving his now critically ill master's life. |
Prototype Jack (or P. Jack, for short) is a character that made his debut in the first Tekken, and he returned for Tekken 2 and the non-canonical Tekken Tag Tournaments 1 and 2, making him the Jack robot with the most playable appearances. His style is labeled as "Power Fighting", and while he fights very similarly to the other Jacks, there are also many things that set their styles apart, thanks to Prototype Jack's rotatable hands, arms, and torso. The first version of Prototype Jack, created by Russia and entered into the inaugural King of Iron Fist Tournament by Heihachi, was a poorly put-together piece of machinery, due to power being the primary focus when it was built, and it was nearly destroyed by Jack. Under Kazuya's orders, Doctor Boskonovitch recreates the robot, giving him his trademark look and adding on the ability of flight. Despite the major improvements in its quality, with Tekken 2 being Prototype Jack's last canonical appearance, it is presumed that Jack's newest incarnation damaged him beyond repair with a second victory over him. |
Craig Marduk is a character that makes his debut in Tekken 4, and he returns for all following games. His fighting style is Vale Tudo, and he was well-respected and feared in the professional circuit, until he was linked to a minor scandal, and expelled as a result. This would cause Marduk to grow bitter against his peers and society, which eventually led to him starting a bar brawl in Arizona and killing one of the men in the bar, Armor King. This would incur the wrath of King, and after arranging for Marduk's release from prison, the two would have heated battles in both the fourth and fifth "King of Iron Fist" Tournaments, the first of which resulted in a victory for King. However, before there could be a decisive winner in their second encounter, the two would strike up a friendship, and for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6, following an assualt on Marduk by a man in Armor King's attire, the duo would team up to pursue this mystery assailant.
|
Jin Kazama (May 2013) |
Wang Jinrei (June 2013) |
Paul Phoenix (July 2013) |
Jin Kazama is a character that debuts in Tekken 3, and he returns for every subsequent title in the series. For Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament, he fights using Advanced Mishima Style Karate and Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts, taught to him by his grandfather and mother, respectively, while from Tekken 4 and onward, he unlearns these styles in favor of Traditional Karate. Serving as the series' main protagonist (a role assumed from his father), Jin is intent on destroying the curse of the Mishima bloodline, although to achieve this goal, his personalty eventually takes a dark turn after he claims control of the Mishima Zaibatsu and engages in a world war against G Corporation leader Kazuya. Along with his family battles, he also shares a rivalry with Hwoarang, who has been obsessed with defeating him ever since their first fight ended in a draw. Additionally, Jin has won two King of Iron Fist Tournaments (3 and 5), tying Heihachi with the most victories. |
Wang Jinrei is a character that debuts in the first Tekken, and he returns for Tekken 2, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 5, Tekken 6, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. He fights using Xing Yi Quan, which incorporates many of Michelle Chang's moves in the earlier games before gradually evolving into his own distinct style. One of the oldest participants in The King of Iron Fist Tournaments, Wang is revered by many of the other competitors, ranging from Lei Wulong to Feng Wei. In the first two tournaments, Wang acts as a "skill tester" for Marshall Law and Jun Kazama, to determine whether or not they will have what it takes to dethrone Heihachi and Kazuya, respectively. His best friend is Jinpachi Mishima, and his reason for entering the fifth tournament, upon receiving a letter from him after he was believed to be deceased. |
Paul Phoenix makes his debut in the first Tekken game, and he returns for every following installment in the series, being one of only four characters to do so. His fighting style is "Integrated Martial Arts Based on Judo", and he is widely regarded as one of the toughest fighters in the universe, having once fought Kazuya Mishima to a draw and defeated Ogre, while also holding a 2-1 record over Kuma. Despite this, he has not won any of the King of Iron Fist Tournaments (he was considered to have dropped out of the third before Ogre morphed into his true form). From Tekken 5 and onward, Paul's persona has become that of a joke character, through a decreased showing of intelligence (Kuma frequently points this out) and a series of comedic endings. He shares a strong friendship with Marshall Law, and when they both fall into financial debt, the two decide to work together in order to claim The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6's prize money for themselves. |
Slim Bob (August 2013) |
Combot (September 2013) |
Devil Jin (October-November 2013) |
Slim Bob is a character that makes debuts in Tekken Tag Tournament 2. As his name implies, he is a thin version of the obese, yet deceptively fast, Robert "Bob" Richards. His first appearance was in Bob's Tekken 6 ending, being the result of Bob getting so caught up in the fame and adoration of the public from winning The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6. Slim Bob fights nearly identical to his heavyset counterpart, with a small increase in speed, although his range is slightly decreased. The weight loss also effects a few of his signature moves (for example, his u/f+1+2,1+2 combo ending move knocks him back on the second hit, and he cannot lift the opponent up high enough with his f,F+1+2 throw for a juggle opportunity). |
Combot is a character that makes his debut in Tekken 4, and returns for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. He is a humanoid robot equipped with a powerful learning AI function, created by Violet Systems. Combot's fighting style is "Mimicry", which has been used in two variations, the first being a Mokujin-esque usage of alternating fighting styles from every fighter in the tournament (T4), and a combination of many specific moves from those fighters, which can be put together in whichever manner the player sees fit (TTT2). Although this model is made specifically for hand-to-hand combat, his uses can range from performing household tasks to military duties. In his most recent appearance, Combot is the primary focus of the "Fight Lab" tutorial mode, where the player controls him while learning the basics of Tekken gameplay, through the instructions of his creator, Violet, and his secretary. |
Devil Jin makes his debut as a playable character in Tekken 5, and he returns for all subsequent titles. His fighting style combines Advanced Mishima Style Karate and Kazama-Style Self Defense (akin to Jin Kazama in T3 and TTT) with many other unique moves, a good number of which make use of his abilities to fly and fire laser beams from his forehead. As his name implies, this is the result of the Devil Gene taking over Jin's body, the desire to further increase his power being his only motivation. His signature quote, delivered before his fights, is "Kyoufu wo oshiete yarou!", which translates to "I shall teach you fear!", although it has also been subtitled in the games as "Fear the wrath of God!", and simply "Fear my wrath." During the events of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, Hwoarang was brought to the brink of death by Devil Jin, who emerged when Hwoarang had defeated Jin in his human form. |
Angel (December 2013) |
Eliza (January 2014) |
Kinjin (February 2014) |
Angel is a character that debuts in Tekken 2, and returns in Tekken Tag Tournaments 1 and 2. Although she serves as a "costume swap" for Devil in the former two titles, she is separated from him on the Character Select screen in the latter game, while ironically, Devil is demoted to serving as a special "stance" for Kazuya Mishima. Angel fights using Mishima Style Karate in combination with the supernatural abilities of flying and firing laser beams from her forehead. Though very little is known about her, she seems to serve as a representation of the good remaining within Kazuya's blackened heart, and she battles Devil in order to save his soul. Though neither title is canonical, Angel is also shown to be tied into the story of Jun Kazama, through both the Tekken Forever comic and Unknown's TTT2 ending. |
Eliza is a character that makes her debut as an unlockable character in the free-to-play online game Tekken Revolution. Her inclusion is a result of being the winner of a fan poll (her opposition being a sexy female Tekken Force member, Shin Kamiya, Zombie Bride, Syake/Salmon, Female Paul, Giant Praying Mantis, GANMI-chan, Tougou, and an average run-of-the-mill old man). Eliza is a vampire believed to be immortal, with her age exceeding a millenium, and she is also a narcoleptic, prone to falling asleep at any time. The result of that leaves her in a deep slumber inside of a coffin for well over a century, with the Rochefort estate being built over her resting place. Eliza's fighting style is unnamed, but director Katsuhiro Harada has described it as evoking the image of a 2D fighting game character, incorporating the use of projectiles, dashes, and energy-enhanced special attacks. |
Kinjin is a character that first appears in Tekken Tag Tournament, and he makes a return for Tekken Revolution. In the former, he is only playable after ten consecutive victories with Tetsujin in either the "VS Battle" or "Survival" modes. In the latter, he is an unplayable boss that can be fought in "Arcade Battle" and "Mokujin Rush". For Kinjin's debut, the only aesthetic difference between him and Tetsujin is the color of their bodies, but his most recent appearance has him sporting a king's crown, a pair of sunglasses, a long mustache that stretches across his entire face, a bow tie, a cape, and a slightly bloated midsection. His fighting style is "Kinjin-Ken", or "Mimicry", which has two variations, the first being alternating access to the other fighters' movesets (TTT), and the other combining a vast collection of moves taken from numerous characters to make up one moveset (TR). As with Mokujin and Tetsujin, defeating Kinjin nets a far bigger reward than anybody else on the roster (excluding Gold Ogre). |
Steve Fox (March 2014) |
Anna Williams (April-May 2014) |
King (June-July 2014) |
Steve Fox is a character that debuts in Tekken 4, and he has returned in all subsequent titles. His fighting style is Boxing, and because of this, the X and O buttons are primarily used to enter his various stances, limiting his kicks to two stomps, one hopkick, and the universal get-up kicks. Steve was conceived through in-vitro fertilization while his mother, Nina Williams, was being held in cryosleep (his father remains unknown). Angered that he was nothing more than one of Mishima Zaibatsu's test subjects, he vows revenge, declaring that they "will never make another monster like me", a promise he makes good on by finding their laboratory, trashing the place, and setting it on fire. In Tekken 6, Steve allies himself with Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law upon receiving an invitation to train with them, due to his desire to experience other fighting styles, and because all major boxing tournaments had been cancelled in the chaos brought on by the ongoing world war between Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corporation. |
Anna Williams is a character that makes her debut in the first Tekken, and she returns for all subsequent titles, excluding Tekken 4. She fights using Koppo and Aikido, and while she incorporates some of the same moves and techniques used by Nina Williams, their styles are vastly different. Anna's trademark characteristic is her sultry demeanor, provoking her opponents with alluring words ("Come over here. Let me talk to ya real close.") before fights, and taunting them with mannerisms such as caressing her body and shaking her breasts and butt after defeating them. She has a long, heated rivalry with her older sister, which has spanned over the entire series, although there are rare instances where the two have more lighthearted moments, like in Nina's spin-off game, Death by Degrees, and Anna's Tekken 6 ending. She is currently employed by G Corporation, working as a bodyguard for Kazuya and opposing the Mishima Zaibatsu, whose new leader now employs Nina. |
King is a character that debuts in Tekken 3, and he returns for all subsequent titles in the series. His fighting style is Professional Wrestling, and naturally, he has a wide variety of throws, which account for more than half of his moveset. He is the second person to adopt the "King" moniker, with the first King choosing him as his successor in his dying wish after being savagely attacked by Ogre. Before the events of Tekken 4, Armor King, the man who had trained King, was murdered in an Arizona bar brawl, and seeking to avenge his death personally, King arranged to have the murderer, Craig Marduk, released from prison and brought into The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. King successfully defeated Marduk in their first encounter, and they would go on to have a rematch in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, though in this fight, neither of them were able to secure a victory over the other, resulting in the two putting their rivalry to rest and becoming allies. |
Doctor Bosconovitch (August 2014) |
Kazuya Mishima (September 2014) |
Jun Kazama (October 2014) |
Doctor Bosconovitch is featured as an unlockable bonus character in Tekken 3, and he returns for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. His fighting style is labeled as Panic Fighting, a style that incorporates many unique and bizarre techniques, such as feigning injury to enter one of his stances (Mad Pain), "detonating" himself (presumably caused by an explosive substance on his clothing), and falling to the ground as the result of performing a large selection of his moves. While only making two playable appearances, Bosconovitch has played an important role throughout the entire series. In addition to remodeling Prototype Jack into his current form, he once saved Yoshimitsu's life, equipping him with a cybernetic left arm in the process, and in return, Yoshimitsu rescues Bosconovitch after having been abducted by Kazuya Mishima. His last project, equipping the cyborg Bryan Fury with a perfect body, ended disastrously when he instead chose to install a perpetual generator inside of him, resulting in Bryan brutally attacking him and several Manji Clan members, although Bosconovitch did manage to survive this assault. |
Kazuya Mishima debuts in the first Tekken, and with the exception of Tekken 3, he has returned for all subsequent titles in the series. He fights using Mishima Karate, the first of what would later become many to use this style. Kazuya is recognized as the winner of the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, where he defeated the host, Heihachi Mishima, and proceeded to drop him off a cliff, as revenge for having the same thing done to him when he was only five years old. Before his reign over the Mishima Zaibatsu was brought to an end, he encountered a young woman named Jun Kazama, and mysteriously drawn to one another (to this day, the full story behind their relationship has never been revealed), the two became intimate, and shortly afterwards, she gave birth to their son, Jin Kazama. As of Tekken 6, Kazuya is the head of G Corporation, the organization that had once saved his life by recovering his body from the active volcano Heihachi had thrown him into two decades earlier, and now hailed as a hero by both the world and himself, he leads G Corporation's forces in battle against those of the Mishima Zaibatsu, whose new leader, Jin, has declared war on the entire world. |
Jun Kazama is a character that makes her debut in Tekken 2, and she returns in Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (where she serves as one half of the game's final boss battle, alongside Unknown), and Tekken Revolution. She fights using Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts, with a large assortment of attack strings that can be linked into one another being one of the most notable features of this style. As an officer of the WWWC (a wildlife protection organization), Jun enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2 to arrest tournament sponsor Kazuya Mishima for smuggling protected animals (such as Roger and Alex), and she also seeks to free Kazuya of the mysterious evil power that surrounds him. However, sometime before the tournament comes to a close, the two of them are drawn together for an intimate encounter, which leads to the birth of their son, Jin Kazama. Although she has only appeared in one canonical Tekken game, presumed to have been one of the many fighters attacked and killed by Ogre, Jun has continued to play a big role in the series' storyline, with a vision of her stopping Jin from killing Heihachi and Kazuya in Tekken 4, and Tekken 5's Devil Within side game teases that she's still alive in its Prologue, while Tekken director and producer Katsuhiro Harada dubs her official status to be "missing". |
Hwoarang (November 2014) |
NANCY-MI847J (December 2014) |
Lucky Chloe (January 2015) |
Hwoarang is a character that makes his first appearance in Tekken 3, and he returns for all subsequent Tekken titles. With his fighting style being Taekwondo, he is most well-known for his kicks, which make up the majority of his moveset and heavily outnumber his punch attacks. Although he entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 seeking revenge on Ogre for attacking his mentor, Baek Doo San, Hwoarang's biggest driving motivation is to defeat Jin Kazama, who he previously fought to a draw before the tournament. Though he would go on to achieve that goal in Tekken 5, his victory would unleash Devil Jin, who beats Hwoarang into unconsciousness, nearly killing him. Now more determined than ever to get closure with his longtime rival once and for all, Hwoarang desperately seeks Baek's assistance to strengthen his skills, who puts him under the most extreme training regimen he has ever designed up until they both enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6. |
NANCY-MI847J (a.k.a Mishima Heavy Industries "BLOODY NANCY" Type 847 Japan) made its first appearance in Tekken 6 as a bonus boss partway through the single player campaign. Only a single round is fought, however the giant robot has a huge amount of health. When fighting the player, NANCY employs a large arsenal of physical attacks along with weaponry like missiles, machine guns, and lasers. NANCY is not a playable character in the standard VS modes of Tekken without cheats. However, it is a playable character in one Scenario Campaign stage. |
Lucky Chloe is a new character that has been announced for the upcoming Tekken 7. She uses moves and mannerisms inspired by the cat, and although her origin country is currently unknown, it has been stated that she is not Japanese. Chloe's announcement caused some outrage amongst fans of the series, perceiving the series to be moving away from its realistic fighting style origins. It is expected that more details will be known about Chloe closer to the release date of Tekken 7. |
Azazel (February 2015) |
Mokujin (March 2015) |
Hwoarang (April 2015) |
Azazel is a character who makes his first and so far only appearance in Tekken 6, where he serves as the game's unplayable final boss. He is the largest character in the series to date, rivaled only by bonus boss NANCY-MI847J and Devil Within's Monstrous Ogre. He does not fight using a traditional style, instead he utilizes a myriad of supernatural abilities, such as laser beams, a Jinpachi-esque stun, teleporting, summoning rows of boulders in the shape of claws from the ground, and firing crystal scarabs at his opponent, along with other moves that make use of his size advantage, such as a triple rolling attack and a lunging tackle. The self-proclaimed "Rectifier of All Things", Azazel is an ancient evil that was sealed away from the outside world by Zafina's ancestors, and the clash of two "evil stars" (Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima) will break that seal and unleash him to wreak havoc upon the world. In Scenario Campaign, Azazel is first defeated in battle by Lars Alexandersson, and later on finished off for good by Jin, although it has yet to be confirmed whether or not this outcome is canon. |
Mokujin is a character that debuts in Tekken 3, and returns for all subsequent Tekken titles, with Tekken 4 being the only exception. It is a wooden training dummy that is brought to life when great supernatural evil surfaces (these entities are usually the final bosses of the games, such as Ogre/True Ogre in Tekken 3 and the resurrected Jinpachi Mishima in Tekken 5). It fights by mimicking the styles of the other playable characters, alternating with every round, a style that has been branded as "Mokujin-Ken". In its latest appearance, Mokujin randomly shows up as a Stage 7 sub-boss in the Arcade Battle mode of Tekken Revolution, with an additional mode of the game entirely dedicated to it and its metal and gold counterparts, "Mokujin Rush", though it is only available for a limited time during "Mokujin Festival" events, which occur at mixed intervals. Mokujin also plays a role in Tekken: Blood Vengeance, wherein Heihachi awakens the spirit of the Kyoto Earth Goddess to amass numerous Mokujin into one gigantic monster for the movie's final fight. |
Hwoarang is a character that makes his debut in Tekken 3 and returns for every subsequent title in the series. He fights using Tae Kwon Do, with a wide variety of kicks making up the majority of his vast moveset, mixed in with four different stances (Left Stance, Right Stance, Left Flamingo, and Right Flamingo). A student of Baek Doo San, Hwoarang enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 to take revenge against Ogre for having attacked his mentor, and in Tekken 4, his story expresses a desire to claim the Mishima Zaibatsu as his own (though in his ending, he immediately sells it off to another company). However, his defining motivation throughout every game is to settle his score with Jin Kazama, who had brought an end to Hwoarang's perfect record when the two fought to a draw prior to the events of Tekken 3. He finally achieves this goal when he defeats Jin in a rematch during The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, but it results in his rival unleashing his demonic form and beating Hwoarang into near-death, which in turn drives him to train alongside Baek with more vigor than ever before to deal with this newfound threat after he recovers in the hospital. |
Kunimitsu (May 2015) |
Tiger Jackson (June 2015) |
Leo (July 2015) |
Kunimitsu is a character that debuts in the first Tekken and returns for Tekken 2, with her only other appearances being in the non-canonical Tag Tournament games and Tekken Revolution. She is a former member of the Manji Clan, and naturally, she fights using Manji Ninjutsu, a style that is heavily derived from the Manji Clan's leader, Yoshimitsu, who expelled her for repeatedly stealing for personal gain. She is notable for being one of the few characters who fights using a weapon (a kunai that she wields right-handed). Kunimitsu enters the first tournament in an attempt to steal Michelle Chang's pendant, regarded as a Native American treasure, but she fails when she suffers a humiilating defeat at Michelle's hands, and in Tekken 2, she enters the tournament to defeat Yoshimitsu and claim his sword, so that her swordsmith grandfather can achieve his lifelong goal of forging a copy of it. With her complete absence from the later Tekken games, there has been much speculation over her fate, with two of the most popular theories being that she was killed by either Yoshimitsu or Ogre (who, in both forms, incorporates two of her unblockable attacks into his arsenal in his Tekken 3 debut). |
Tiger Jackson is a character that debuts in Tekken 3 as a "costume swap" for Eddy Gordo, and he returns for Tekken Tag Tournaments 1 and 2, with his own slot on the "Character Select" screen in the latter. Sporting an afro and dressed in bell-bottom jeans and platform shoes, Tiger's love for the 70s and disco is apparent, but little else is known about him. Like Eddy, his fighting style is Capoeira, and with his TTT2 return, his moveset has been slightly tweaked to differentiate the two (for instance, he retains some of Eddy's older moves, such as SS+2 and the "Magic 4" high right kick that knocks his opponents down on a Counter Hit, gains new ones in b+1,2 and WS+2,3, and he can taunt after connecting with moves like b+2 and FC,1+2,1+2). Tiger's introduction to the series led to much speculation over whether he was an alter-ego of Eddy or a completely different person (a theory supported by Eddy's TTT1 ending). Namco themselves have spoken on this matter twice, once in an art book released for Tekken 6, which cites him as an unused early design concept and name for Eddy, and again in Tiger's bio for the Wii U edition of TTT2, which states that the two are unrelated, despite sharing the same Capoeira skills. |
Eleonor Kliesen, better known simply as Leo, is a character that debuts in Tekken 6, returns for the non-canonical Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken Revolution, and will be returning in the upcoming Tekken 7. She fights using Bajiquan, a hard-hitting style that incorporates two stances, "Jin Ji Du Li" (f+4) and "Fo Bu" (d+1+2). The daughter of a world-famous spelunker (her father) and a G Corporation executive (her mother, Emma), Leo would eventually lose both parents, with her father mysteriously disappearing during one of his expeditions, and more recently, her mother being murdered at the time of Kazuya Mishima's rise to power in G Corporation. When his name comes up during her personal investigation of the crime, and she learns that he will be participating in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6, Leo enters the tournament herself, planning to personally exact her revenge upon him. The biggest issue of discussion amongst fans when it comes to Leo has been her gender, which had been intentionally kept ambiguous so as to give players a character they will love, regardless of gender, until Katsuhiro Harada confirmed her to be a female while promoting Tekken: Blood Vengeance. |
Unknown (August 2015) |
Forest Law (September-October 2015) |
(November 2015) |
Unknown is a character that debuts as the final boss in the non-canonical Tekken Tag Tournament, and she returns to reprise that role in its sequel. In the first, she fights using Mimicry, utilizing the movesets of all other playable characters in the game (except for the animals, big characters, and non-human bosses), and she will always start off with Jun Kazama's style. In the second, having been confirmed to be Jun possessed (she was originally intended to be her younger sister before the idea was dropped), she now utilizes a modified version of Jun's moveset, and has obtained the ability to incorporate the purple goo that coats her body into her arsenal, turning solid masses of it into spikes, large hands, and for her special d/f+1+2 throw, a wall, which all come from the ground on her command. Interestingly, a Wolf Demon appears behind Unknown in Tag 1, seemingly controlling her like a puppet, and according to her ending, he plans to assimilate her into himself to acquire a complete physical form, but Unknown overpowers him from the inside and kills him, and he is absent from Tag 2 with no given explanation. She has an implied connection to Ogre in both games, where the two share a staredown in Ogre's Tag 1 ending and in a special Tag 2 win animation if the two are teamed up. |
Forest Law is a character that debuts in Tekken 3, and he returns for Tekken Tag Tournaments 1 and 2. He serves as a substitute for his father, Marshall Law, in his first two appearances, with TTT2 being the first game where they're both playable. Heavily influenced by legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, naturally, Forest fights using Jeet Kune Do, although game booklets list it simply as "Martial Arts", with his take on the style now featuring an emphasis on taunting and "fake-outs". Coerced by Paul Phoenix, Forest enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, motivated by the desire to prove his strength (to both his father and himself) and show that he is worthy of one day inheriting their family's dojo. As of Tekken 5, Forest has been sidelined by an accident that was the result of him taking Paul's motorcycle on a joyride, which serves to give Marshall reason to enter the fifth and sixth tournaments, in order to claim the prize money and pay off the property and medical expenses. |
